Hello Everyone. I had to cancel my gig last night because the D and G# Keys did not work. Does anyone know what the problem could be, and how it can be fixed? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Hi @Pianoman

First, if your keyboard is in warranty period, then you better go to an Yamaha dealer (your one from which you bought the keyboard) and ask him to replace the rubbers for those octaves where the keys does not work. (Personally, I would change them all).

If the keyboard is not anymore in warranty, then try to open it and check for the rubbers. You can also try changing from one octave to another to see if this is the problem. They could be broken, you may see them carefully.

Check them.

Greetings,
Vali

Thanks for your quick response Vallmaties.

It's the D and G# keys in all the octaves, meaning the entire keyboard. I've tried a soft reset at least 6 times and the problem still won't go away. I wonder if a Factory reset, or removing the USB pen drive might help.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, or have any suggestions regarding removal of the USB stick or doing a hard reset?

On which video you play the Genos1 or Genos2 ?

Your question is for keys on the Genos 1 and the Genos 2 ?

I see now, all D-s and G#-s ...  :o
I don't think there is a bond to the USB, it make no sense.
Seems more a motherboard problem or the keyboard's board problem, maybe in soldered pins.
Did you open a ticket to Yamaha? Maybe a call is better in your situation, is quickest solution.

I'm sorry to hear that!

Hope you find the solution fast, I bet a quick call to Yamaha will help you!

Regards,
Vali

Hello Egbertus.

It is the Genos 1.
All D and G# notes across the keyboard don't work. It becomes very difficult for the accompaniment to follow. Any chord that includes those notes goes crazy. I have removed the USB underneath  out of desperation and it appears be working now,so far.

I didn't see your post before because I have been out all day trying to find a technician or a replacement Genos.

Thanks for your response. Much appreciated.

What?! That make no sense! This is definitely a BIG bug.
Even so, you have to make some tests! Try this TEST !

Hi Vali.
Today is the fifth day that the keyboard is working perfectly. I had read on another post related to the SX 900 on this forum about a member who was having  trouble with his keyboard, so he removed the USB stick underneath and his keyboard worked after that. I don't understand the relationship either, but I'm able to work and that's good. I'll be trying out the test and let you know the result. Thanks again Vali for your help.

Regards,
Vali

hmmm.. SX900 has no USB connector underneath.
But then, what matters is, that your problem has gone  :)

Hi @Pianoman,

The reason for such errors (which affect a specific key in all octaves) could be a loose internal ribbon cable connection (loose contact on certain pins). Since all octaves are affected, I suspect the problem is with the cables from the MKH board (key matrix high) to the EMKS board (where the key scanner IC is located). If these cable connections are OK (and the problem persists), the aforementioned key scanner IC could be defective. See this picture:

If the problem persists or occurs again, I recommend having the Genos checked by a technician who is familiar with Yamaha keyboards.

By the way, I don't think the problem has anything to do with a connected USB stick.

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)
