For one, the website http://www.global.yamaha.com/ does not exist.

Next, we go from version 1.2 to 1.3 to 1.4 and now 1.41 then suddenly jump to 2.0?  . Phony if you ask me. Water cooler gossip at best.

But, time will tell.

It's not unusual to step up to next level version x.0 when major changes and/or addons is done.
The 'between steps' are often when bugfixes and small changes is done.
I think this 'addon route' is planned in many ways, not only because of what users whishes, but also how far to go before next keyboard version arrive.

Regaring the link that don't work, it is what was in use when the YT site was created in 2007. Not unusual that such old links are changed.

Also Yamaha wrote when 1.4 was made public:

Hi Mike --

My guess is the Superior Pack will be loaded and handled like any other expansion pack. This seems like the simplest solution for Yamaha engineering.

I emphasized "guess" because no one really knows much about the update and almost everything in this thread is speculative.

Rather than wait around and think too much about too little information, I'm playing instead.

2. There are a lot of people that are "scared" to open a ticket to Yamaha and ask them things, and I don't know why.
3. My email has a list of requests, not only that "stupid" question, but I asked them in the name of all which had no confidence in that account. And now I assure them it is not a fake account.

If this forum is a joke, I think you must apologize to all good people who wrote here...

its not an offencive post people don't believe what is coming in the update if Yamaha say what is coming in the update then it will be in the update

It's already been said that neither the video and definitely not the channel are fake.
If you "google" Genos and look at yamaha's (usa) official page, you will see videos from the same YouTube channel.
That simple.Anyway....
Do you like the update or not?
Will you still keep an older version because you don't trust the team that created your Genos or not?
Do some of  you, still feel disappointed  because they have added new functions on the SX900 that your Genos doesn't have?
Do you become to understand the benefits of the new operating system that the Genos has compare to the Tyros line?

I look forward to the update and will not keep the old version. There is no point to doing that.
I also have the SX900 and look forward to chord looper on my Genos as well also extra flash memory and new styles and voices.
Operating system is the same as always but you access functions a little differently via screen which I find much better than my Tyros was.

I think it's great Yamaha has upgraded the Operating System so they could add new features and more memory to first the sequencer and now the expansion memory.  I hope this is the case with the sx900 also.

The newest arranger keyboards are definitely a "bigger bang for the buck" than the previous models.

I tried SX-900 and as I tough we miss next things to have perfect ability for "USER HARMONY" :

1. Note shift to all individuals tones +/-12 separate for R1,R2,R3
2. Possibility to memorized in Reg.Memory all (including SUB scale)

With that job for "PERFECT USER HARMONY" will be finished.

There is still time until winter.

Initially I also thougt so, but when read svpworld comment, I started to have doubts about that. For example, how would they get memory increased from 1,8 to 3 GB without physical hardware modification?

As Genos owner I do hope it will be software update, but until I see it demostrated .... well, keping my figres crossed

The IC (Integrated Circuits) already exist there. The memory IS there, but for some reasons it was not allocated to user needs.
They now will allocate that memory to user need. So simple! (Korg did that too )
So, please, no more questions about that!

As Genos owner I do hope it will be software update...

As a Genos user, I believe (and a lot of us here) ... Do it yourself and, meantime, let's focus on other things

This is a Software update, not a new Hardware unit.

There's many ways Yam could have expanded memory allocated to the Expansion Packs:
- Genos has an internal storage of 64Gb (eMMC) and on this single hardware memory unit, they created at least 2 partitions (or 'logical unit') : one for Expansion Wave files, and one for the System (and Factory Wave files I guess ... ) , they could have resized the Partition dedicated to the Expansions Waveforms, and reduced the System Partition because they optimized their system (which is Linux based, remember... there's a lot that can be done to trim a linux distribution size ...)
- Do a real-time Decompression of Waves stored in the Expansion Partition. Not easy as it could slow down the switch from one wave to another, but still doable since decompression is typically much less demanding in term of processing power than compression (which should be done ahead of time, in YEM for example). Anyway, there's always a tradeoff between the time taken to read a compressed file + decompression itself vs the time to read a larger uncompressed file ... If the Genos main processor is powerful enough and the (de)compression algorithm is really optimized, the time spend on decompression could be negligible and even negated by the smaller file size !
- Do some 'housekeeping' and apply the compression on the System partition (the Linux distribution) in order to trim its size, and reallocated the gained space to the Expansion Partition. (this is in fact a 'blend' of the two previous points)

Of course, this is only speculations from me, but as an I.T. pro, it makes sense to me

There's a lot that can be done on the O.S. level of the Genos to really unleash the Hardware power inside !

On a personal note, I really hope they fixed the annoying (and awkward) 'multiple DSPs on one Part' bug and usability qwirks ...

Wait and see, but the fact that they announced a V2.0 is really promising !

From which parts currently aren't used.

Makes me wonder where he got this information?
