Luluc, if you did not hear about it (its present on the market about 20 years ago) you must watch the SX-900 presentation video and you will see and hear what is Style Section Reset.

Hi,
can anyone tell me what can this "Scale" function do without? And, possibly give a precise example of use?
thank you in advance
Good evening

I have a little hope that they add rotary control to the programmable foot pedal to use it with the Mfc 10 , never missed style reset or chord looper .

I watched the vid. OK, it's a cool feature I will use.
It's said that the style section reset can be triggered using a footswitch. I understand a pedal. As we can only connect two pedals already assigned to two functions, I hope we will get too a Sy*** code to control this feature.

SCALE - It's like we can make USER Harmony. Now we only have factory settings, Standard Duet, Standard Trio, Rock Duet ...

Seagull29,
Scale is used on most of EastEurope music and Arabic music (maybe others too).

If you can select more than a semitone in a scale value, you can simple make your own Harmony setting. There are some combinations of scales that Harmony Settings of Yamaha (Korg, Roland) cannot make to play a good harmony. All is about that Root Note and the mathematical relations between notes. In fact, music is math :D Math + soul = happiness :D

Hi Seagul,
the scale tuning we are using for playing music was developed over the years for playing Western Europe's music (Classical music.Afterwards jazz, rock etc)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_tuning

Other kinds of music were/are using different scale tuning that can "suit" better to the ear for  specific musical scales(there are many more than we used to play) and instruments.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt2c3ByxqnI

In our keyboards we have some different scale tuning function as "presets".
On my psr are in "Master tune/Scale tune" (Function button + A button)

Yamaha updates have always included all previous changes, meaning you can just install 2.0.

But wait? 2.0 won't be out until "Winter 2019". Install 1.41 now, and enjoy its benefits while you wait for 2.0.

Cheers,
Fred

Fred.

thanks for the clarification.  I thought the excitement was because the 2.0 upgrade was already available as of now.  Evidently it is not.   thanks again.

Well done Yamaha! For me, the chord looper, is such a desirable feature. I am also excited for the 50 new styles. It will feel like Christmas!

No, Al  ;D
The excitement is for WHAT the new update will bring.

Metcam, it can (or not?!  ???), and it is individual, for each voice part... I don't know which is the maximum value accepted for a note. They wrote in a note on SX manual, that the value increased/decreased is as 1/100th of a semitone, which means that value represent a real percent of a semitone. If that value can be more than 100, is a very good thing, we can make terca, if not, is useless, we cannot do it ;)
More than that it has SubScale, but the things is, if it is like on SX, only the SubScale cannot be saved in registration, is only a temporary scale. But Main Scale is saved in registrations.

That's why we need also "NOTE SHIFT"  or "Key transpose" and than everything must to be memorized in Registar memory.
Right there is end of the story :)

I think Yamaha will fix that to we have Finally  "TERCA" (USER HARMONY) on Genos.

WRT increasing expansion memory

Quote from: Bachus on October 04, 2019, 05:49:35 AM
there is many ways to archieve this.. allocating memmory different.. lossless compression ofvthe memmory, hard disk streaming (thats what korg did)

Hi Bachus --

We're on the same page here. I think Yamaha has implemented compression of user waveform samples. Given Yamaha's commitment to quality sound, I don't think they would use a lossy compression.

Streaming? I don't think they can. (Prove me wrong, Yamaha!  :) )  The data channel from the eMMC device (64GB) is relatively slow; it's definitely not as fast as a SATA-based SSD. It uses the funky integrated eMMC data channel provided by the ARM processor. All sample data would need to flow from the eMMC to the ARM and then from the ARM to one of the tone generator waveform memories.

I'm looking forward to learning more about this improvment.

All the best -- pj

P.S. Montage/MODX users are still screaming for user waveform compression...

I think that they used the memory that has been reserved for audio styles before they enabled Genos to read audio styles from USB devices. What do you think?

Hi Uli --

That's an interesting idea! I guess we'll have to wait to get more information before we can infer how they really did it!

Almost done unpacking and reorganizing the studio. Fortunately, Genos and MODX arrived unscathed. I've found a church group which does a lot of gospel music in addition to the usual hymns and psalms. Lots of B3, so I'm smiling!  :) :) :)

It's good to be practicing on a full size keyboard, again. So, far, I've been rehearsing and playing live with the YC and its mini-keys.

Take care -- pj

I don't know about this..
There seem to be 2 soundprocessors in the Genos
Each having 128 voice polyphony..
One for the onboard voices
One for the expansion voices

Which made me believe each of these soundprocessors has its own memmory..
The onboard soundram of Genos was about 2 GB
Same goes for the Expansion sounds
((((Where Montage has 6 GB +2GB) all on 1 sounprcocessor where the 2nd is for FMX))))

So with both adding new sounds (advanced sounds) as well as expandingbthe expansion sounds
Lossless real time compression seems to be the answer, to this miracle

Snicker740

I began to count down in the hangover and suspense. It's like 2 years before the first leaked images of Genos, but no date of the 2019 winter timeline will start from which date?
It is October 5 now that it is almost the end of autumn. So will the winter be December 30, 2019?
Or Genos 2.0 OS will release exactly 2 years on the launch of Genos (October 2017)

Hi Bachus --

I lean toward compression, too. Yamaha's memory allocation (especially waveform memory) is rather clunky. In their defense, the clunkiness is partially due to the need to lay out samples (compressed or uncompressed) in contiguous, sequential chunks. This is necessary to maintain a high enough data transfer rate from ONFI flash.

I feel like I'm already out on a limb with speculation. More details from Yamaha should help us to fill in the story.

Hi Uli

I do not think that Yamaha actually reserved any memory for the Audio Styles in the Genos.  Yes they did on the Tyros 5.

We will , see, in the end the choosen tech is not whats important, its important that think work ..

Really looking forward to this patch..
There is a lot of goodness in it..
But its espescially good to see proof that Yamaha Arrangers is finally on the sme track as Yamaha Synths..

Whats also good to know is that all these things where in a post about 2 years ago, that got deleted and turned into drama.  Hope we will see more of the goodness described in that post in the future..

Hi Uli

Bill

Yes, they did. With firmware 1.10 you could load expansion audio styles using YEM, and there was 1 GB of memory reserved for this. This  limit was shown in YEM. With firmware 1.20 Genos was able to read audio styles from USB devices. So the internal flash rom memory for audio styles was not needed any more. So it was unused until now. Many users in German groups were waiting for Yamaha to give this unused memory free for expansion voices. I think that this will happen now.

(So I am not a believer of the lossless compression theory. Because this new limit would not work for Yamaha expansions, since they are already compressed. But using compression for user samples would be a great advancement. Nord can do this: the Nord sample manager does compress user samples for use in internal memory.)

Great...more expansion memory for me means even more bagpipes samples! a sound I use which always works to stop a new years eve gig going on too long especially if one makes excessive use of the pitch bender . It wasn't the German scientists that developed the first military sound weapon , it was the Scotch ! Lol
nothin wrong with Bagpipes lol

Sounds a little fishy to me.

For one, the website http://www.global.yamaha.com/ does not exist.

Next, we go from version 1.2 to 1.3 to 1.4 and now 1.41 then suddenly jump to 2.0?  ::). Phony if you ask me. Water cooler gossip at best.

But, time will tell.
