Hi Yogi

One style at a time

You have to stop choose another style and go through the process of giving Cubase the information on the template track which is Midi 1, that is why Tiho starts on track 2.
Once i really get used to all of this I will experiment this way with registrations and see what happens. In theory it should also work as track 1 takes in all information.
Basics first.

I bet Michael is extracting the vocals from songs and selling Karaoke bundles and making a bomb on the black market!! "Sausages"!!!!

;D

Michael is retired, and fortunate to be in a position where he has better things to do with his time left in this world than try to make money off his music hobby.

SpectraLayers works very nicely. I used it to create Born To Be Old.

John,

I loaded your Cubase template but note there is no track 1 on which to receive any G2 sys?

It is on the Template track that is midi 1 also where the information is stored once you press record and nothing happens.
Yes ,something does happen and when you press record again the information is in the template track which  is already there because you gave it the command when nothing happened after pressing record first time.
That is what I discovered. You can rename template track 1 midi 1 if you wish.
It all will kick in on bar 2 which gives you time to start playing.
Start with the chord  which is first in your song  when you press record second time and when you reach bar 2  you are away  recording.
You can press intro fills  etc  and all in the style will be recorded as you play.
It took me a few weeks to  get my head around all of this but now it works great

Make sure all your ins and outs are correct.

John,

Not sure what you mean 'record a second time...'

Quote: Start with the chord  which is first in your song  when you press record second time and when you reach bar 2  you are away  recording.

Also, did you upload yor G2 Prefs?

Can you list your exact steps one by one so I can better understand precisley how you are recording

John,

Having gone through everything in more detail I have decided to stick with the G2 midi record and import to Cubase method. Many thanks for all your previous support

Hi Yogi
I looked at tiho's video again and all is clear to me now.
Even I had doubts as some parts in your template you sent to me had a few little mistakes. But that got me results.
When I re-followed Tiho's On and Off record settings I adjusted those to suit.
eg, In record on midi 1 channel you have note off because that track is note information.
You have to follow Tiho's video to the letter and all will be well.
Now all I have to do is put the On record template and put record on the tracks that I want and now it starts coundown and starts, no more fiddling
After, put Off template in and it all plays back fine.
Keep going through that video and the penny will drop.
Do not get me wrong as i have spent too much time making clangers trying to get there myself and Uncle Tom Cobblers :)

If you look at Tiho explaining Note partials  and double notes all can be rectified In Cubase Functions.
If you are a fraction out in changing chords you get little annoying notes all over the place and they have to be erased for clear recording to wave file.
I think what causes double notes is when in recording LOCAL should be switched off. I took all ticks out on Record on template. If not it causes a loop.

I am a Cubase user and writer. I recently bought the Genos2 and I think I made a big mistake. It is a real dog with Genos 2.
I can not download any of the files listed in the above posts. Do I need some permissions? Is there a standard template for Cubase 14 and Genos2?

Unfortunately there is no template for Cubase and Genos, you would need to create one yourself from scratch. Tiho has done just that, however I could never get it to work 100%. John has said that he has it working fine, but again I couldn't achieve the same results, close but not good enough for me, too many cliches. One of a number of issues was that some voices record an octave higher in Cubase that heard on the G2. There are work arounds such as changing the input octave in the midi modifier section of cubase, providing you know in advance what voices are being effected.

I removed my downloadable files as I felt they ultimately failed to be 100% usable and I didn't want others to experience the frustration I had in trying to build a 100% usable template. John mentions that he use the Cubase control room, I don't, so maybe he has had better luck. I did try his solutions but was never able to fully understand his methods.

For now, I use a combination of some edited midi tracks which I then convert into VST's and couple these with G2 audio recording, still not perfect but acceptable.

John,
Is your template still giving you a workable 100% result recording midi to Cubase?

If it helps please find link below to my latest files. These include midi implementation files for the G2 and a matched template for Cubase 14 Pro. I have managed to make some improvements to my process and have included general instructions within the files. If any prove useful let me know and I'll see if I can give a more detail description of my way of working, particularly regarding Cubase syncing.
