SUSTAIN PEDAL...Procedure how to use it ?.
I would like to learn the correct way to use sustain.
DGX670 without stand so does not have the three pedal option.
I use the standard Sustain pedal supplied with the DGX.

Replies appreciated.

Graham, there is no simple answer to this, because it depends what you are playing and what you want to achieve.
But the basic is to get fairly automatic control of your right pedal foot. To do this, do some exercises which you repeat daily until you get control without thinking. Place your right heel on the floor with the ball of your foot lightly on the pedal. Play a scale while pedaling each note. Try to get control such that you sustain the note right up till you play the next note, but never beyond. So the two notes never superimpose. Then do something similar playing chords. The aim is to repeat until you learn to actuate the pedal automatically while thinking only about the sound being produced. You will never use a sustain pedal well if you have to think about moving your foot.
Sheet music may have pedal notation, but when you play music from lead sheets or by ear, you are being guided by the sound you want to produce. Typically you will re pedal on chord changes to make sure you don't produce dissonance, but the bottom line is that it needs to sound good. In that sense it's no different to playing notes or chords. Use your ear and musical chops to decide what works.
Then it's just practice, practice practice till it all happens without conscious thought.

Graham, I noticed this piece has the pedal marks on it so thought I'd share it, in case it might be useful for practise.
