Hi Guys,

Has anyone had any luck connecting Genos to Songbook+ thru Wifi? I followed the instructions in the new How To Connect Manual for Genos. The MIDI signal indicator is flashing and if I check, it says it is connected. When I try to link a registration with a song, using the "Now Link This Song method, I keep getting an error message stating it could not connect.
Do any of you guys know what I need to check, too get this working?

Thanks in advance,
Rick D.

Fred Smith

The midi signal does not go through WiFi. It goes through the midi ports (A and B).

You. can connect wirelessly, but you need a midi to Bluetooth converter. I use a Yamaha BT01.

Hi Fred,
After I posted this, I was able to get it working.
It did not work when I tried to hook it up thru WIFI using the Genos WIFI as a host. I switched it to my own WIFI and change the IP to match that in Songbook, and it works great.
I did watch your video on hooking it to the Tyros 4, but it seems Yamaha has made the process a lot easier now.
Thanks for all your help, you are an asset to this group!

Fred,

It just dawned on me, what your last post said.
You only need the Yamaha BT01's, if you want to connect with Bluetooth, not for WIFI.Yamaha BT01.
The WIFI works with no need to by anything.

Really? Now that's useful information.

I'm assuming you're using the SongBook "Now link the song" operation, right?

Yes, Fred, that is how you link them. So much easier then the way we had to do them on the a Tyros.
I did about 100 songs in 5 minutes.

I wanted to try to do it this way, so I could keep my iPad charging when I use it.

Just a side note. You have to restart MIDI every time you turn on Genos.

Hi, Rick
I have the same problem, but don't know how to Change IP that resolved the connection. The steps needed to achieve it to work.
I know there is two connections wifi possible on Genos, my wifi or as a server. Server=host?
If you could help I'll appreciate.

Hi Pedro,

I use infrastructure mode, after you're connected to your wifi to enter the new IP address press the Details button on the bottom of the Wireless/LAN screen after selecting Infrastructure mode.
Use 10.0.0.1 for IP address.

I am linking Songbook+ with Genos using a device similar to the Yamaha BT01.

I am just curious . . . .the wifi method outlined here . . . . will that work if you play the Genos in a different place not your house, not your wifi . . . . .  ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Al,

That's a good question that I don't know the answer to 100%, but I would think you would have to change your settings at each location.

If I was gigging out, I would use the hardwire method of hooking Songbook+ to iPad. This involves getting yourself a camera adapter that allows charging and USB connection. That way there you would always know it will work without any glitches. If you need more info let me know.

Pedro,

I just realized I gave you the wrong information in my last post to you, the IP address you want is 10.0.0.88.
I originally gave you the Gateway setting by mistake.

I thought we could modify or edit a post, but I guess there is a time limit on that option.

Sorry about that,

Rick D.

Thanks Rick.

That is what i thought myself.

I have used the hardwired method and currently use the Bluetooth method with a device similar to the Yamaha BT01.  It works regardless of location because it connects via bluetooth.

thanks again. Have a great day.

Hi Rick,
I'm no success with the same IP address in a infrastructure mode.
I don't know how can I change the IP address. Did you change it using a static IP in the router management page?

I've tried too connecting Genos as an Access Point, but my Android Tablet says that is connected but without Internet(?!).

In the songbook+ App, when I press its button for "digitalize"/search for device, the app doesn't find anything.

Best regards,

Hi Pedro,

Not sure if you saw my correction post above, I put the wrong IP it is supposed to be 10.0.0.88, but it could be different on everyone's.

Go into Genos and go to W/LAN settings Menu 2, Select your Network and make sure that you are connected to your wifi. Then click on the Detail button at the bottom, it should show something similar to mine. (See link below)

In Songbook+ if you go to Settings (the gear top right) then scroll down to MIDI see if it is the same as mine or the same IP Address that is listed in your Detail screen. (See link below)

Hope this helps,

Hi Rick
Many thanks for your help anyway.
I suppose the problem is with my tablet.
It doesn't show such page on songbook settings.
The midi capabilities on my Android device doesn't exist, perhaps is the reason for that.

Pedro,

Sorry to hear you aren't having any luck. I know it does work with Android, but I don't know how to direct you for those.

Hi Rick
Thank you anyway.

Basically what I really want is there any way I can read song lyrics in the songbook pro that I installed on my Android tablet activated by a
 corresponding record
to that same song on Genos?
Is a special cable needed for this purpose?
I think I should connect a USB cable to the Host port on the Genos and the other USB Type-C port on the tablet to connect, but I don't know if it will be possible that way, or how.
I also don't want to spend money on an adapter without knowing if it's viable that way.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Cheers.
