Hi ALL,

My Ipad has finally reached the stage where it is to old to be updated to the latest operating system 16
I am reluctant to buy another Ipad and am thinking about an Android tablet but know zero about Android as an operating system
So looking for some of your experiences with Android tablets and software availability as regards Yamaha arranger keyboards

I suppose you know already but there are new iPads just out including largest ever at 13 inches. Nice but not as cheap as android. Windows tablets look nice but they are not cheap either.

I have an Android tablet.

It's a Lenovo Tab M10 (3rd Gen)  pad, and I find it perfectly adequate for everything I want it to do on my keyboard.

It also has, importantly and essential as far as I'm concerned, a proper 3.5mm headphone socket, (the one that Apple dumped a while back to be 'trendy' and save space....  ::) ::)) so that I can listen to my music using my Roland headphones.
I have a serious distrust of sticking horrible unhygienic ear bud type things in my ears. Yuk!

That, and their completely exorbitant prices persuaded me a long time ago that Apple products are just over hyped, ridiculously expensive, and not for me. My opinion you understand.

I've got my Mobile Sheets set on up here, and it works well with my Lekato page turner Bluetooth pedal.

Hi Brian

IPAD's are certainly different and difficult to get used to initially, however once accustomed to the OS they are difficult to beat.  The brand new 11 inch IPAD costs only £349 so no one can say they are expensive.  The range of music app is far better than other systems.

Not 100 percent sure but I think that the new iPads do not have an headphone socket. No idea what connections are capable  by  using the " charging " socket , or  whatever they are using now can use.

Before you switch from an iPad to an Android device, you should definitely check whether all the apps you want to use are actually available for Android. Yamaha in particular has many apps only for iPhone and iPad, but not for Android.

Another question is whether you really need the latest operating system on your iPad.

Kurt makes a good point.
Just forget the update and carry on using what you have.
And there are apps that Yamaha will stubbornly only produce for Apple.....Despite Android being much more popular.

Not everybody wants or likes Apple.

I'm still using an older Samsung Chromebook Plus (2017) that folds to a tablet, but no longer receives updates. But I only use it with Mobile Sheets as a music reader, and Mobile sheets has regular updates. I like the 3:2 display for music sheets, and the touchscreen and stylus pen are nice, but nearly impossible to find something similar in 2024. Therefore I'll keep using it, until I no longer can. You might want to do that with your iPad. If it ain't broke...

Hi Guys,

Thanks you all for your input on this subject and there are loads of valid points in you comments, and I think the best way forward for me is to research what programs I really need and on which platforms the are available and then try and make the right choice,  Thanks for all your input it has been most valuable.

Hi Brian

My iPad is an old model like yours and is used daily. I use it as a music reader and I really do need any updates to iOS.  Stick with what you know. The only downside is that I can no longer access Audio.com. Not important now since I was bumped off the forum. >:(
