SX720 Bonus Playlist does not play on SX700

I was curious to see if I can get the bonus playlist from Yamaha for the SX720 and SX920 and play it on my SX700 but I get the message " data has not been loaded properly".  Did I do something wrong or is Yamaha smart enough to identify that my keyboard is not an SX720 and stops me due to compatibility?

Hello,

I think you should be able to use it on other PSR-SX keyboards. Just make sure you are only copying the folder named "PlaylistForPSR-SX720" (this folder is inside the "BonusPlaylistForPSR-SX720" folder) and paste in directly on the root directory on a USB stick.

I had some issues with the playlist at first when I tried to copy it to the user memory. I get the same kind of error you are seeing, so it's important that you copy it to a USB stick and use it from there.

There is a .tsv file inside all of the different genre folders. This file is telling the keyboard where all those registrations are located, so that's why it's important to only copy the "PlaylistForPSR-SX720" and place it directly in the root directory of a USB stick.

Your SX700 cannot read registrations created for another model.

You could convert them, using Murray Best's Registration Manager. Then they will load. But you're still going to have problems with the registrations looking for styles your instrument doesn't have.

Hello gentlemen and thanks for your response.  So Jugge, are you saying that you finally got somethings to work?  I did exactly what you stated, downloaded from the Yamaha web site, unzipped it and then was presented with the main folder containing the gender folders. So from that point all looks good until of course I open the registrations on the keyboard. That main folder was was copied onto a brand new USB.

To Fred's point I suspected this would be the case for many of the styles but was hoping that there would be some that would be using the same resources that are on the SX700.  I have never used Murray Best's software but will download it and see how I fair out with that.

     Best regards!           dom

Indeed, you need to convert the individual registration files with the very latest version of the YRM tool of Murray Best. I have done it for my SX900 with some of the SX720 registrations that were not on the original SX900 playlist and it works perfectly. On the SX700, some styles/voices might by missing of course. A big thank you to Murray!

Hello.  Fred, I am kind of at a loss here. You stated that my keyboard cannot read registrations from another models.  However, I have downloaded the Playlist from Yamaha's website for the Genos-570 regits, SX900-484 regits and of course the SX700-372 regits, any one selected at random all play.

I then loaded the playlist for the Genos2-1632 regits and in this case it got the message " data has not been loaded properly
So to your point, as long as the OS is the same on the different model keyboards there is no issue.

I have to suspect then that the SX720, SX920 and Genos2 must all be on a new OS and that explains it of course confirming what you stated.

I have downloaded the YRM software and converted Mendianoche.T558.Rgt and plays well.  Nice software thank you
Murray .   Is there a way to mass convert or do we have to do each registration one at a time?

     All the best!                 dom

Hi Dom, you'll not be abble to load the Sx920 registration on the SX900 because the SX920 is a new model; The Yamaha Registration Manager will not convert theses registrations as Murray is certainly working on the up date version for the new Yamaha SX920 and SX720; i hope that information will help you; all the best Patrick

YRM has a batch convert feature. You can convert a whole folder in one go.

Patrick, as said in my previous message: Murray has already adapted his YRM application to be able to read and convert registrations from SX720 and SX920. If you are not getting this to work, you are still using an old version, because I was able to convert registrations from SX720 to SX900.

Fred, I don't think that in the batch function of YRM there is an option to change the target keyboard. I tried by using several workarounds (like removing in batch certain settings in all registrations of the SX720 playlist) but the source keyboard remains SX720. So for the moment, the only option I see is to convert each registration individually.

Surprising that it's an issue with that specific keyboard. I've done many batch conversions, but for other keyboards. It would be worth contacting Murray on the issue.

Johan:

The target keyboard is selected before you do a batch conversion.  You don't set it within the Batch program.

Whatever keyboard is set as the target when batch conversion is started, all the registrations will be changed to that keyboard.  The conversion routine will highlight all the settings in the converted registrations that are not available on that target keyboard.

I did a quick test run converting SX720 bonus play list Ballroom to SX700.  They were all converted in a few seconds (40 files), but there were 656 problems.  Mainly voices, styles and effects not available on the SX700.  You can be sure that the bonus play list of the new keyboard is designed to showcase the new features, so it's not surprising that lots of settings are not available on a previous unit.  This is no different from styles, where new voices have been used so that the style voices have to be adjusted to be used on a different keyboard.

Hi Murray.  I have converted Ballroom, Classic & Events  Country & Dance. I test them all, deleted a bunch of them as the keyboard just repeated the previous regit, others did not sound all that good or even sound like the intended songs. However, out of it all I say it is worth converting as there are some good things that can come out of all this, but will take some work to make them your own and sound very good.  I will continue to convert the SX720 and then pick up the addition ones in the SX920.

You said you converted Ballroom in 40 seconds, I had to do all mine "one" at a time as I could not get the batch conversion radio button to pop up for save.
  Example:
  Selected - SX920 - Ballroom
Provided new folder for target converted files
Hit the Convert radio button and things got populated
Showed 50 problems on the left side of the display with "save report"  "print" "clear report" and nothing to say save or convert
Had to exit and then left with no options but to do things like I was doing before with SX720 individually.

    What am i doing wrong?

    Regards.  dom

Hello Murray, thanks for joining this conversation. It did not work for me because I always start YRM by clicking on a registration (in File Explorer) and in that case the "Batch Bank Conversion" button is not shown. Now it works and as a test, I converted the Ballroom registrations to SX900. It only took a few seconds and there were 257 problems.

The 257 problems can be reduced to 2 types:
- missing styles: I have done some further testing and this is not always an issue; for instance, Rumba1 is not found but becomes Rumba on the SX900, Samba becomes Jazzsamba. However, 3 styles show up as something completely different and need a manual intervention: quickstep, foxtrot and cha-cha;
- missing reverb effects: the "Revelation" effects are replaced with similar "Real" effects on the SX900. The result may not sound exactly as intended, but this is really no issue at all.

Conclusion: in general the automatic conversion works very well. This is mainly thanks to the fact that the SX900 has all the voices of the SX720. Converting to the SX700 will of course result in more severe "problems".

Dom, in your last step, you don't have to do anything: the converted registrations can be found on the location that you have indicated (so no need to click on something in the last screen).

Hi Johan.  I must really be out to lunch.  There is no file progress in my case and no files in the new folder that I created.  However if I click on the save report I do see the audit file in the new folder but that is it. The release I have is 5.11 and using Windows 10.  Tried doing different combinations with the target file location but still nothing happens. When the list is populated after selecting the convert button, every entry has a messages saying the following:  Also does the same for the SX720 files.  But doing them individually converts fine.  Sorry to waste everyone's time on this.

The fact that you get "unknown keyboard" is because you are not using the most recent version of YRM. Be sure to update to version 5.3 after you have installed 5.1.1. This is documented by Murray on the download page. As a test, you can open one registration of the SX720 list and the Source Keyboard should be "PSR SX720" and not "unknown". Version mentioned in YRM on my Windows 10 pc is 5.3.2.

Hi Johan.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!   Thank you so much.  All worked fine as stated.  I will now go back and scrap everything I did on the old version, Restore my playlists to their original state and use this new version.  Appreciate very much your persistence to get me up and running.   Also can not forget to thank Murray for this exceptional programing skills as being a long time programmer myself, I know the work involved to create and maintaining them.   Great job!!            All the best!
