Controlling A Style With MIDI Chaords From Cubase

I have a Cubase project containing a chord track. I have the chord track producing MIDI notes for the chords, which I then route to the Genos2 via MIDI channel 1.

The chords successfully trigger the style, but I was also hearing each chord play on the Right1 instrument, because Right1 was set in the MIDI Receive settings for Port1 Ch1. I finally got the chords to stop playing this way by setting Port1 Ch1 to Off in the MIDI Receive settings.

My question is, how can MIDI coming in on channel 1 still trigger the style when the Receive setting for channel 1 is Off? Is there some (possibly undocumented) backchannel which enables this? Is there anywhere in the user interface where you can see this backchannel, or anywhere in a manual where it is mentioned?

Thanks...

Forgot to mention:

Local Control settings have no effect on this phenomenon.
