Noises like a relay on the display

Hello everyone,

has anyone noticed on the Genos2 that a clicking noise sometimes occurs in the area of the elongated display, like a relay?

When I switched on the Genos 1, I think that happened at the moment when the device was ready for operation.
What is that exactly? Sometimes the noise occurs when switching display pages. It's an electronic switching noise, nothing mechanical.

Best regards
Holger

Mmm.. sure you have set in <UTILITY> and <Touch Screen/Display> <SOUND> to <OFF>? ;)

Yes, I'm absolutely sure. It's an electronic switching noise

Yes this sometimes happens when loading large files from USB and is nothing to worry about It is just the system sorting things.
I did notify Yamaha and it was all checked out weeks ago.

Many thanks for the information.
But since when do file operations make noise???

EileenL

It all depends on what you are loading and how big it is. It is not going to happen every time but when it dose it is nothing to worry about. If you are not sure then have a Chat with Yamaha as I did.

No, I believe you. I'm just very surprised that such a phenomenon exists

Funny, I've noticed it too somewhere in the display/sliders area. As technician I really wonder the function of such a relay at random times. I often noticed it when I was not playing for certain time. Could be something like energy saving I guess. But it is strange and feels as a "cheap" noisy electronic design compared to the Genos 1, which was always silent.

Spoken of that, I also wonder the function of the blue bright LED flashing sometimes inside the keyboard on the right side next to end of the keyboard keys. You can't see it while sitting behind the keyboard. But when I sit on my couch I just look at the keyboard from the side. :o

Well, mysterious things are happening on the inside... Yamaha isn't from China, is it?  ;D

Oh boy, luckily it's clear then. The beeping of the display causes the 'secret' camera to be turned on and the blue light inside means the secret 'microphone' is on.  Business as usual, don't worry  :D :D

Hi Holger,

This clicking sound is the Mute Relay for the headphones output.

Shortly before the end of the boot process (between displaying the Owner's name and displaying the Home screen), various mute circuits activate the individual outputs. For most outputs, this is done exclusively via ICs and transistors. The relay mentioned is only involved in the headphones output.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

thank you also for the explanation.

And the blue light seems to be the WLAN module

Greetings,
Holger

Yes. I am experiencing the same issues on my G2. Every time I touch the screen, I hear a clicking sound. Even when I'm playing music, I can still hear that clicking sound coming from the speaker. Hopefully, Yamaha will address this matter for us.
Thank you

Hi Steven,

You can switch off this display click sound in "Menu > Utility > Touch Screen/Display > Sound".

See also page 163 in the Genos2 Reference Manual and the attached screenshot.

By the way, the Genos/Genos2 touch display also produces quiet mechanical noises when operated (which of course are NOT transmitted via the outputs). This is normal because this is a so-called "resistive" touch display, in which the surface gives way slightly under finger pressure (in contrast to so-called "capacitive" touch displays, such as those used in smartphones and tablets).

Best regards,
Chris

Hmmm... I don't know what kind of display SX900/700 has, but it requires no pressure ("touch" is enough) and there's absolutely no noise at touching.

It is the same on Genos2. No pressure required.

Have you connected a external monitor to the Genos 2 ?
