Hi all,

I like to have the following. Right1 Piano and Right2 Strings
When I play the keys soft to medium I like to hear the Piano but when I play harder the Piano and Strings.

I played with the velocity settings in Voice Edit bit I can't get it to work. I do not understand how it works, even I read the reference manual.

Doest anyone have some tips for me, or is this not possible?

Interesting and pertinent question.
I would like same setup as well, but don't believe It is possibile.....

Hope to be wrong....

hello,
That's very interesting question and the answer (according to my knowledge) is... that's not possible by using built-in (preset) voices.

We usually "simulate" that by simply setting strings volume to (for example) 50% of piano volume. But as far I understand you, that's not what you're asking for. Because in that case, we will never hear strings at full volume, no matter how fast we hit the key. And opposite: strings will still be present even if we press keys gently.

In short: what you're asking for is only possible if voice is created that way. Simply put, strings voice should produce sound only above certain velocities. But such voice doesn't exist in keyboard and (as far I know) we also can't set that voice parameter in keyboard.
Btw. in Voice Edit we can set Touch Sensitivity, but that doesn't give desired effect in this case.

The only right solution that I see, is to create custom strings voice in YEM.

Might be easier to assign the volume pedal to Right2. Then you can bring the strings in and out when you want.
Genos2, Montage M6, Maschine Micro NI, Cubase 13, Komplete 14 Ultimate, Arturia Analog Lab, HALion7, Groove Agent 5, HS8 Speakers.

Just did a quick experiment on Genos1 -- it's the same set of parameters.

I think you're heading in the right direction. I tried a RIGHT1:CFX RIGHT2:SeattleWarm layer. The thought is to make the piano more sensitive to velocity and make the strings less sensitive to velocity.

The Touch Sensitivity Depth is a scale (multiplicative) factor. The Touch Sensitivity Offset is a delta that adds in and shifts the curve up or down by the offset amount.

For experiments sake, I left the RIGHT1/Piano TS Depth and Offset at 64 each (default settings). Then I changed the RIGHT2/String TS Depth and Offset to 23 and 58, respectively. It kind of does what I want -- less strings at lower strike velocity and more strings at higher strike velocity.

Higher values seem uncontrollable, so this is a case of "less is more."

Once the strings are set, then maybe tweak the RIGHT1/Piano TS parameters in the opposite direction slightly?

The SeattleWarm attack is kinda slow. Maybe better to experiment with strings that "speak" more quickly.

Hope these thoughts help -- pj

Experimenting in real time...

                               TS-D   TS-O
RIGHT1  CFX ConcertGrand        67     67
RIGHT2  SeattleClassical        50     56

Good luck!

The Casio CT-S500 has that feature. But I guess the voice is made that way. I have the Casio CT-S400, and have not tested if my keyboard has a voice like that. So why not Yamaha keyboards, at least Genos?! On the Casio, you play piano, but if you play harder, the strings come in too. Cool.

You could go into voice edit and change the touch sensitivity depth of the strings to 127, leave the offset at 64 (and then lower the string volume to balance)

If you have a volume control pedal you can set that up so that it has no effect on RH1 (piano) but controls the volume of RH2 (strings).

Add delay to the strings so they come in gradually.
