Eileen, marking the G2 box pieces shows you already have in mind the transition from G2 to G3. Good thinking. Thanks for reminders to update.

My G1 was collected by APC (AC Hamilton's courier) yesterday and when I asked for a receipt the guy said, "We don't give them. Everybody asks that question. You can take a photo of me and the van if you want", then with a big smile, posed with the box. I hope the smile wasn't saying, "Thanks sucker." Can you image the reception you'd get at the police station telling them you'd been robbed after you handed over your keyboard to a complete stranger, watched him put it his van and drive away, never to be seen again?

It's going to be a long wait to see if I get my G2 next week.

I appreciate the all of the pain you have. It must be a sign of the times that AC Hamiliton have to receive your KB and inspect it before they send you your new one. I have always had my keyboards collected and renewed in one delivery. Even when I have picked up a new KB from the shop they never opened the box before I left. Hamilton's did offer me a delivery and collection on the same day, if I paid the extra £2000 but I would not have received anything any earlier than next Tuesday. Hence I just stuck with the double day arrangement.
The next big worry is that they receive my G1 in the same condition it was when it left me. I would imagine Hamiltons would offer me next to nothing for the old one until they sorted it out with the courier.

I do not blame Hamilton's at all, I suppose they are only protecting their interests. However if there is a next time I will consider a personal collection from the store.

My Genos was also collected yesterday (A&C) I packed the Genos back into it's box and had it ready for collection,when the driver came he asked me where the label was ? I said 'what label' then he said 'the barcode' I told him that I did'n't know anything about a barcode label,so he said he would need to contact his depot ,he put the Genos in his van and went.So I then rang A&C Hamilton and they said it was the delivery company's responsibility to see to this.So I'm hoping A&C get it back OK.Genos 2 to be delivered Mon/Tues hopefully

That's really bad. I stuck to my dealer I have been with for years and it was delivered to me by one of there staff.

I've finally upgraded from my trusty S970.
My first top of the range arranger keyboard, & the perfect companion to my Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88 plus associated samples.
I've a speedy game laptop, Focusrite Clarett 4 pre USB, and M-Audio BX8 monitor speakers. Use Cakewalk DAW.
I think I'm good to go.
Looking forward to learning much, & experimenting more, hoping to find some styles for South and West African music eg Lingala, Mbalax, Seben, Township Jazz, etc, plus Prog Rock [Yes, Floyd, King Crimson, Genesis, Camel, Moody Blues].
Life is feeling pretty joyful at the moment.

I bought from my local Bonners store, been a customer for over 25 years & keen to support them, they price matched for me & it took less than 2 weeks from ordering to collecting.

I have not got mine yet but got a phone call at about 4.30pm today that the next batch coming this Monday one has my name on it so it will be delivered either Tuesday, Wedneday or Thursday, what I may do is create two collection notes for the tyros 5 with serial number one for them to sign when they take mine away and one for them to take with the keyboard.
I have prepared everything I can, I can't do any more until the G2 comes getting excited now it will be soon.

Yes I could have had one delivery & collection if I paid £4K up front with the difference refunded when they got my G1. I was going to pay the 4K but in the end I went for two trips. Had it been summer I'd have done it myself.

Over the years since I began buying organs in 1987 (a used Cavendish 34 (£399)) from my local shop I've had many new and used organs, then from 1999 new keyboards. I didn't buy from the same dealer like Eileen and Taffinator has, I just went to where I could get the right deal for what I wanted. The oddest delivery I had was a swap of a Kawai SR5 for an SR6, delivered at midnight by Edna from Whitely Bay Organs. In those days it was all done in one trip. I guess for dealers it's too risky today. In their place I'd do the same as Hamiton's.

I thought you'd be getting yours as well. That's two eager, champing at the bit, Hamiltonites.

Hamilton's told me a label wasn't required and the driver didn't ask for one or a barcode. He did first ask me if it was an organ which suggests to me that Hamiton's use them mainly for organs. I thought organ deliveries would be very rare these days compared to how it was in the 80s & early 90s. I realise dealers still have a lot of used organ stock to shift. My last organ (Yamaha FS-70) I had to sell privately in 2003 because the local dealer I'd bought it from didn't want to know because he couldn't shift them.

Just a short first impression. Fortunately, I am not bothered by the comparison with the G1, which I sold 4 years ago. I've had the opportunity to explore the SX900 well in recent years. As a result, my user requirements have also grown with regard to the (im)possibilities. That's why I thought a transition to the G2 was now a good time for me. And that led to me being able to pick up the G2 today. The excellent sound is especially noticeable when combined with a pair of good speakers. The screen is also excellent. I had placed a 'shield' on my SX900 because the 2 monitors and the lamps in the room reflected too much light on the keyboard display. I really don't need a tilting screen anymore. Now no more trouble, a relief! The sound quality straight from the box is finely adjusted. You rarely have to 'adjust' the sound using OTS. Of course, the choice of instruments remains subject to differences in taste. They did use way too hight buttons above the sliders. As a result, half of the LED lights cannot be seen. I once simply removed a few buttons, and then you have a better view. That is a dumb designer mistake! I would have preferred 61 keys, but the advantages quickly make me forget that. I had to expand my home studio a bit because of that. But that sound ..

... I'm getting behind the G2 again, CU.

Experienced the same 'problem' when I tried to pack the G1 here a week ago.

But I was really lucky, the new owner live not too far away, and he collected it at my home. There was no need to pack for safe shipping.

If all goes well and the earth still stands, the new G2 should be here on Monday the 11th. Hope it gives a more quality feeling than the G1 did when I took it out of the box in spring 2018. (Cheap plastic fantastic made in Chi..)

So, next week I expect to be eligible to join the chorus of complaints about everything not being as expected after many years of development....

Your expectations may be met (and even exceeded, as mine have been... but I had somewhat modest expectations)
Except for 1 thing. It's the exact same type of case (slightly thicker and heavier due to the new screen angle). It still feels pretty plasticky. Buttons are still printed on the outside.

And the sub menu screen is actually worse :/

But everything about it *musically*? I'm discovering more and more improvements as I play it.
You'll know what Elaine and the others here mean when they say "it just sounds real". It really does!

At last I have my new Genos2 it came at noon, I have loaded up 13 packages in it so far, it is so different from the T5 this is going to take some learning where everything is, I have to put the 64gb usb underneath yet probably do that tomorrow, but it is a lot smaller than the T5, and it looks good in my music room.

Just got my G2 today,lovely keyboard,I had a G1 so it's not so bad finding things.Hope you figure it all out OK.Don't forget to register it with Yamaha to get your 5year warranty and free packs etc

Just reading a msg about dealers not wanted old organs, some years ago I had a Yamaha D65 which I did not want anymore. Not really wanted by local dealers unless for next to nothing so I gave it to a local hospice who had a tired old farfisa and was always struggling for money and could not afford a replacement. Just a thought about anything not needed, there is always someone to help.

Yes, Eileen. Christmas & birthday. My G2 arrived at 8:30 yesterday morning. Spent rest of the day unpacking, taking photos of how it was packaged. Plugged everything in - speakers, 3 pedals, tablet, aux in from Korg PA-300, and of course, mains. The most difficult part was woofer socket orientation. Then I upgraded firmware. I'd had enough by then. Today I'm going to load my G1 User drive and fx settings from backups. Then I'll begin reviewing my registrations and related styles and make any changes. I use a reg bank per song/tune. Fortunately I don't have anything like the number that others here have.

Oldden, I was about to do the same with my FS-70 then someone offered £150 for it and took it away, saving me the bother. The FS-70, like all the big organs, was very big and heavy.

Congrats to all that got hands on the G2!

Got mine G2 today.

First thing I did after unbox it, was to put USB stick containing everything that was on the G1 HD into the bottom USB port and closed the cover.
Then plugged all cables for pedals, speakers, USB to host, power etc.
Plugged a USB stick with the OS update on top USB port and powered on as described if update.
Updated sucessfully. Everything works great.
WiFi setup done and installed all packs downloadable for G2 via YEM. No problems at all.

Then for fun, because a copy of the Expansion folder from G1 HD (where all addonpacks that was installed on G1 is stored) also are to find on the USB stick at bottom, I thought I should try to play styles and sounds direct from the USB.
Played a quite a few randomly, and most all seems to work great. Except for a Chinese psr770 pack where it seems like some solo voices are missing by use of OTS. That may be because I dont have the folder structure copied from G1-HD saved in the root of the USB, but in an 'upper' folder named HDcopy.
Going to test it out someday, and also compare to the G2 packs installed via YEM.

Well, first impression after a few hours is not bad. As I said regarding G1, that was the very best arranger from Yamaha at the time it came out, and got better during some OS updates..
G2 should be the best arranger released by Yamaha till now. So far it sounds like it is, but it still sounds very CD'ish and too polished (personal taste) .....

Same sh** in new wrapping? NO, not at all!! But of course, there is lots of similiarities and 'lookalikes' at first glance... It's a Genos2

I've had Genos 2 for a few weeks now and in some previous posts I mentioned that I haven't found the right EQ settings. I said it had to much "treble". Gunnar Jonny's term "to polished " describes what I an hearing too. I think it might be more than an EQ issue. Yes, Genos 2 has superior sound quality than Genos 1. I said before that I can hear so many more subtle nuances in the mix. Between the new drums and reverb I love the new sound but I still think it is also too harsh sometimes. I can play back older songs recorded on Genos 1 and the legacy voices accurately renders things exactly as I remember. Occasionally a song recorded as MIDI may sound different. I suspect a few legacy voices might be missing.

So today I unpacked the old Genos 1. I found my EQ settings and was surprised when the flat setting was selected. I never did have any "magic" EQ settings ever!!! So now where do I go? When I played Genos 1 my ears immediately noticed how less brilliant the tone was. It's like Genos 1 is more analog and less digital sounding than Genos 2. I think my next step is to set Genos 2's EQ to flat and adjust my amp settings. My KLH model 5's have 3 tone settings built into them. I haven't yet played around with them.

I'm not disappointed. This is just the first time a Yamaha keyboard I purchased didn't sound great all by itself out of the box. I guess it's all part of the fun.

I need to sell my Genos 1. I hate eBay and don't like strangers in my home. Not sure how I will do it. Maybe someone here might be interested. I could be Santa!!!! -charley

Fortunately A&C Hamilton have already installed the Firmware update and loaded some pack data, so that has saved a bit of time.

I have put a 256Gb usb underneath and transferred all my Genos1 data across to it.

Just got to install the pack remaining pack data and I can then start to explore!

Ah, I was wondering about how big USB sticks it would accept. I wanted to put a 256gb but ended up putting a 128gb instead out of precaution. Not going through the palaver of unplugging it all again, I am sure 128gb will do for what I use it for.

I have been dreaming of a Genos for years. The announcement of the Genos2 pushed me over the edge. Thanks to the members who frequent this board. The information here has given me a great start.
