Is there a way to step edit a chord sequence in the Genos2 Chord Looper? That would be really handy.

If there isn't, is there an appropriate way to suggest that to Yamaha? I would love to see it in some future firmware upgrade.

It would beat what I have to do now, which is to export the chord sequence to Cubase, edit it there, and then load it back into the Chord Looper.

There is no direct step editor for editing chords in the Chord Looper on the Genos. However, there are two methods to achieve this. The first method is to create a chord sequence in a DAW on your computer by inputting MIDI notes that match the tempo. Then, you can send the DAW's MIDI output to the Genos' Keyboard receiving channel and start recording in the Chord Looper while the DAW plays. This essentially replaces live recording with playback from the DAW. The second method involves directly connecting the Genos' MIDI IN/OUT, then turning off all MIDI transmission on the keyboard except for sending MultiPad 4. In the Chord Detect section, you can set the channel for Pad4 to respond to chords. This way, after writing the chord sequence in StepEdit on Pad4, it can be played in sync with the Style, allowing you to achieve the chord sequence functionality.

The instructions sound simple.  It seems only the last step of renaming the midi file to cld must be done on a computer and the rest (creating the midi file) can be done on a keyboard.  Is that correct and what is meant by "expand" the midi file - where is that done?

Thanks

The expansion process creates Yamaha XF chord metadata events along with the notes and other MIDI events for the accompaniment parts.

If you do not press expand, you will not hear anything.

Where is the Expand button or command located - in the keyboard song editor or only on a computer?

Hi
Go to  SONG RECORDING then MULTI RECORDING
Go to STEP EDIT  and then press STEP RECORD and record your chords with fills etc.
When finished Press STEP EDIT  and  EXPAND will appear next to CHORD at top of the screen.
Press EXPAND and then you are done

Jeez....put the keyboard into full mode, tempo to 75 and simply record it in live.

The above is way too convoluted!

Very clever!

Does the progression end up in the Chord Looper? Or do you always have to play it back from the Step Editor?

Hi Michael,

You could try the "Chord Looper Editor" program by our forum member Rainer (rbackes):

I just found a new download link and a YouTube tutorial video for this program:

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

That's also a way, but that doesn't always work. I sometimes have slash chords with awkward five fingers positions, and when I don't press them exactly at the same time, I get audio glitches.

True, and that's why it's so unbelievable that Yamaha never programmed a quantize function for the Chord Looper, and also made it unnecessarily complicated to rename a chord sequence.

I am very happy with all the suggestions above as (creative) workarounds!
