Genos EQ and Compression Differences Due To The Venue

I am seeking your advice. I play and love my Genos 1, and I perform at senior living centers with medium-sized rooms.

I have two Bose S1 Pro speakers, that I raise on speaker stands.

I use the EQ Gold Master EQ Settings, as revised by Lee Batchelor, and have set the Compressor to "Natural". My Mic EQ Settings are normal, although I leave the Noise Gate off. I sing, and occasionally use the VH2 harmony in the Genos, and I am very pleased with the sound and harmony.

My problem is rooms that have bare floors and walls, which cause the sound to bounce and echo. What can I do to minimize these effects? How do others handle this problem?

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Is "trial and error" the only way to determine answers to this question? I need to improve my sound in rooms with bare floors and bare walls. I would be grateful for any advice you can offer.

Thanks.

Hello Jim,

I don't think you can make any adjustments to your EQ settings that will solve the problems you describe.

The answer is to change the characteristics of the room itself.
By that I mean you would have to hang drapes or large acoustical sound panels to absorb the echo.

This, of course, is probably not feasible, so the only other way is to avoid the room altogether. Again, likely not a good solution.

In short, I think you may be out of luck.

This happened to me also. I just lived with it, because the folks in the audience loved the music anyway In most cases, they didn't care too much; they were just happy to hear the show.

best regards

Thanks, Ron. One question..............does the placement of the speakers make any difference?

Hello Jim,

You can try placing the speakers but to be honest, I don't believe that would help.

Volume is not your friend in this case.
Perhaps you could try using one speaker and see if that improves things for you.

I recall a few years ago when I was involved in helping improve the acoustics of a mid sized hall.
One day while visiting the site I noticed two workers in the ceiling area on latters of course.
They, like many had a boombox playing quite loudly. What was surprising was that it sounded terrific. We actually found the solution by accident; it seems that the men took out a few ceiling tiles allowing the sound waves to escape the hall and creating wonderful acoustics.  The response was to change to hard ceiling tiles with softer ones; ones that could absorb the sound.

Problem solved.

A slight adjustment can make a huge difference

Regards
