For my SX700 I have downloaded couple of styles, which were programmed for another keyboard and some voices in them are ,,unknown" - invisible on SX700 screen. I want to revoice these styles, but need first to know the original voices. Even Registration Manager shows only numbers of these voices, but not their names. How can I see their original names and instrument categories?

Thanks for any help

hello Lacko,
Maybe you should try with:
Y-StyleRevoice  -click on Download button on the top left corner to get zipped content
Please, read included PDF file first.

Lacko,

Just curious, for those invisible instruments on screen, if you mute the other style phrases does it play a substitute voice where you can get an idea of the intended instrument?

This post topic reminds me that I would like to see a tutorial on re-voicing made here. We have a few generous people here revoicing styles for us, but would be nice to know their basic approach & steps. Preferably without the use of a PC application.

You could just pick voices yourself, try a few, see how it sounds. Maybe you will actually like  it better than the original. There's no magic about the voices the original style maker picked.

If you have the MIDI Bank Select MSB, Bank Select LSB and Program Change number, you can search for and find the name of the instrument voice in the Genos Data List PDF. Genos has virtually all of the voices, so it should appear in the Genos Voice List.

Same is true if you use a revoicing tool. Tell the tool it's a Genos style and it should display the voice name.

Hope this tip helps -- pj

Hi Rich,
if I mute all other parts of a style, there is nothing to hear. No automatically substituted voice.

Hi Mike,
looks like this is the best (and easiest) solution for my problem. It works quite fine. Maybe because I don't know how the original style sounded. Importatnt is, it sounds well for my ears.
Thanks

Thanks Bogdan. Very useful application.

Hi Lacko,

I would use the "MixMaster" program to identify the original voices of such styles:
>>> https://www.psrtutorial.com/MB/EV_Files/mixmaster.html

If you haven't already done so, first add some instruments (e.g. Tyros5, Genos, Genos2) under "Options > Instrument Manager". Then set e.g. "Tyros5" as the instrument so that it is displayed in the menu bar. Load a style file and click on the "Voices View" button to see the voices of the individual parts (MIDI channels). (You could also use "List View".)

Good luck!

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

How it sounds to you is really the only thing that matters.
Whether it's picking a style for a song, picking OTS voices or making style changes, I think that far too many people either think there is a right or wrong, or that others are much better at choosing than them. Just experiment, sometimes the results are better, more fun, and always more satisfying.

If these styles are from an expansion pack the voices may well be part of that pack and not on the keyboard at all.

Hi Eileen, Hi Chris,
yes, it looks like one of them is from some Romanian expansion pack and therefore the instruments are not visible in MixMaster. I have revoiced them to my taste and am happy now with the result.
