Hi --

I finally had a chance to update my Performance Styles for PSR and Genos. You will find the download link here:

https://sandsoftwaresound.net/free-performance-styles-of-psr-genos/

It includes the original V1 styles converted from Motif XS/MOX. I've added a dozen new styles. The new styles target Genos1, but you should be able to re-voice them for other PSR and Tyros arrangers. The newer styles make full use of Genos insert effects (one per style part).

These styles have an R&B, funk, smooth jazz slant. Mangle them and make them your own. :)

Have fun -- pj

P.S. The styles are free. I don't make money on this! :)

Hello!

I have a Genos2 and will try those performance styles you posted. I'm not familiar with those performance styles you mentioned. They sound both interesting and fascinating. Thanks.  -charley

Thanks for helping out! My timezone is behind most of the civilized world.  :)

Glad folks are enjoying that. I'm hoping to post a few more words about what's inside. Quickly, a few of the styles have the so-called "DJ" format with the chord progression cooked in: SlowWalkerDJ and SunsetDrive come to mind. SunsetDrive is a jam based on Jean Luc Ponty's "Sunset Drive". Should be Cm7 in keeping with his recording.

Have fun -- pj

Hi PJ, thank you for these great styles, all the best Patrick  :)

I published a blog post about the new styles in the collection:

https://sandsoftwaresound.net/a-few-words-about-my-new-psr-genos-styles/

BTW, Remember the thread about prog rock styles? There are two prog rock styles in the collection. "Ticking Away" is obviously "Time". "See The Show" is a mash-up of ELP and Yes. I guarantee, "See The Show" does not sound "like an arranger".  :D

Have fun -- pj

Thanks Paul,

I used several your conversions in StyleMagic and saved individual style parts to make new styles with in the future.

I have save about 7000 individual style parts now for Ballad, Chill, Dance and Trance styles.  I'm hoping to do that same thing with my Motif Rack XS. I'm also going to record Arps from the PSR S970 and Motif User Voices and convert them to Multi Pads and/or style parts.

I'll give these a try later! Not my usual type of music, but hey, I've tried most things musical in the past 54 years!

Thanks for sharing. :)
It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

I am extremely interested creating a new Style using different "Parts".... My current use of StyleMagic allows me change/add OTS...Many questions have crossed my mind such as adjusting for tempo, rules that I need to follow, and proper protocols.

My hope is that you can explain how this can be done , using as much detail as you wish to share

Thanks

You must have v3.50 to Export and Import style Parts.  There should be documentation on the midisoft website.  Basically it works similar to Style Creator Assembly.  Start with a style and change Parts by Importing a new Part that you saved to disk.  If you don't like it, then drag the Part to the trash can and try another.

The reason I saved so many Parts is that the styles I like often have Phrases in the Pad Part or Chord Part so I set up folders correlating the 8 Parts and save the type of Part in the correct folder.  For instance, if I want to replace a Chord Part with another Chord Part, I go to the Chord folder and select a saved Chord Part.  Same with the other Parts.  Because I like Dance and Trance music, I've added a couple of extra folders for Side Chain and Pulse Parts.  I also save the Fill-In Parts but not the Intros and Endings because I make those the same as the Main Sections so I can play the chords myself.

Hi Ron --

Joe H would have more to say about using StyleMagic than I. My development process is different and uses different tools:

http://sandsoftwaresound.net/mox-perf-to-psr-style-part-2/

There is a huge amount to learn about style-making and I'm still learning, too. For folks getting started, Jorgen has links to style-related documents that are worth reading: http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/

I'm glad that folks like Joe rip things apart and put 'em back together!  :D

Take care -- pj
