old ms-cd styles disk

Hello,

I'm back to exploring my collection of older styles. I stumbled upon a CD/DVD full of styles, midi's, multi pads, sound effects, and sounds. The only info I have is a filename   ms-cd.  I'd like to find out where they came from. Many of them sound great on my Genos2. These definitely aren't Yamaha made styles. They just have a different sound and feel to them I like. Most of the styles only have 1 intro in the "songstyles" folder. All of the styles have a "European" feel to them. I'd like to share these files/styles but want to make sure they are copyright free. I think they are perfect candidates to be updated in proper Genos2 fashion. These are just too good to keep for myself!  -charley

These are probably styles from the German company "MS-CD Software". The website "http://ms-cd.de" is currently no longer accessible.

Since you whet our appetite and if you do determine those styles, multipads, sounds, midis to be copyright free and are open to sharing them, please let us know. The style page link above from the archive.org site leads to a  "forbidden" access message.

When I was exploring those archive.org links I noticed all the attachments are not saved on these archived sites. I wouldn't expect them too. The amount of file storage would be mind boggling. I'm gonna upload the styles and will remove them if anyone has any objections. I'd really like to find more styles from this extinct site. These files were from around 2006. I imagine they made some more recent content for sale? Help me find them.  -charley

I did a quick audition of all these style folders. I don't think these are a copyright issue at all as they are mostly styles in the usual genres, similar to the Yamaha presets and not superior to them in my opinion. But thanks for posting them for us. Will keep an eye out for any more recent content ms may have made for sale.

@Charley: ms-cd was actually 1 man who did this as a hobby. He stopped doing it 2 years ago. He was already 60+ at the time and thought it had been nice. He then sold everything he had and that was the end of MS-CD.

Thanks for all the replies. When I first found these styles on an old hard drive last week I almost didn't even give them a thought. After all 2006 was a long time ago. How good could they still be?  I'm so glad I made the time to review them. After listening to a few in a row I immediately knew these sounded a bit different and they might be "keepers". These will keep me busy for a while. I'm still trying to listen to everything my Genos2 has to offer. Keyboard life is good!!

Fikke mentioned that MS-CD was just a one man operation. It would be nice to know who he sold everything too when he stopped his business. I wonder how many of those style disks were released over the years?  I'd love to find some more. -charley

Charley- I doubt there was anything sold on. It was likely a hobby level thing with little tangible assets.
He probably just dropped it.

Hello!

There are now several members searching for more information about MS-CD.  I'd love to find more offerings to explore.

I looked further into the folder with all the MS-CD material and besides the styles I already posted there are multipads, midi files, sound effects, and sounds folders.  The sounds folder are all UVN files.  I uploaded the entire DVD for those who might be able to use these files. It is 1.7 gigs so it is a hefty download. Enjoy!!  -charley

My question here is for Chris (overover) because he explained a while ago in a past post how to import these type of voice files into YEM for SX/Genos when the "Fantasy Pack" was shared. Chris, these voices came organized in 4 separate folders, each folder has the .UVN voice files along with one UVI file. Would I assume that I am importing 4 separate packs into YEM by selecting each of the UVI files for each folder? And then saving each pack as a .ppf file?

Hi Rich,

One Pack can contain up to 128 UVN Voices (Custom Normal Voices) plus up to 128 UVD Voices (Custom Drum Voices).

But in this case, I would create a separate Pack for each of the 5 sound packs "Soundpaket 1 - 5". The easiest way to do this is to import the included .UVI Library file as a Pack (My Packs > Import Pack). It is important that the .UVI file is in the same folder as the linked .UVN files.

For the "Sound Effects" I would create a new, empty Pack and import the 5 SFX .UVN files into it ("Import Content").

Finally, you should export each Pack as a .PPF file so that you can import it back into the YEM later if necessary.
