Arpeggiator Shuffle?

Can you ajust the arpeggiator from straight 16ths to shuffle? Or, is it always locked to an even grid? I couldn't figure out how to adjust this when I demoed the Genos 2. Playing an arpeggio with straight 16ths on top of a style with uneven 16ths does not work musically. Hope the grid of the arpeggiator can be adjusted. If not, this will certainly need to be added in a firmware update. Fingers crossed I just overlooked the setting.

No, it can't, and I would not expect this to be changed anytime soon, if ever,.

Thanks for confirming. That's really too bad and a big surprise considering Yamaha implemented other relatively in-depth arpeggiator options. Why such low expectations about shuffle not being implemented in a future update? Are the low exceptions due to Yamaha's support history (I'm not too familiar with how Yamaha updates typically unfold) or is it the shuffle feature itself? Not trying to ignite a fire, legitimately curious. Shuffle (sometimes called bounce) is pretty standard in any modern device that implements midi clock and has been for 15-20 years, maybe more. I'm still getting familiar with Yamaha's approach to products and support but I have a strong history with Roland gear. Now, I concede Roland has not done much in the way of arrangers in years BUT, elsewhere much of Roland's current (and legacy) range implements shuffle in some form. Some Roland devices even have a dedicated shuffle knob (TR-8S for example). An arranger is undeniably a performance focused instrument and an arpeggiator is a highly useful, widely used performance function. Gone are the days when a player hits the arp button and is content with a steady stream of straight even 16th notes. Today players must be able to adjust the feel relative to the grid. Hopefully arpeggiator shuffle percentage will be implemented because for the players that do use arpeggiators it is expected.

A side thought, what would be even better is the implementation of a global, system wide shuffle function that applies to the global clock. Then, make that assignable to one of the assignable knobs or sliders. Image how amazing it would to adjust the global feel (bounce) of ANY/ALL styles in real-time between straight 16ths, shuffle, and everywhere in-between. Anyhoo,  I'm not expecting or asking for a dedicated shuffle knob (hardware updates are unrealistic) and not even asking for a global shuffle function (it's likely too hard to integrate retroactively). However, a simple shuffle control in the arpeggiator options menu is more than reasonable to implement and should have been there to begin with.

I agree that basic functionality is missing from the arpeggiator, such as shuffle. IdeaScale, the website where you can submit your ideas to Yamaha Engineer, is full of arpeggiator requests. Perhaps Yamaha's idea is that few people use it on arrangers, but still add it for those few. If that were the case, I can understand those thoughts, if it is so limited no one uses it. Chicken and the egg problem.
The request that is made most often is to be able to create arpeggios yourself, and then with the functions that are normal on the market, such as shuffle.

When I read everything that people miss in the flagship that the competitor has, then Yamaha has a lot to do. That will be a huge update to the operating system and functions. Hopefully they listen to the customers and it is not a marketing term. We listened to you and this is new.

There is a way, lets say a workaround, by recording the arpeggiator as midi, and using the midi file in a DAW to add it to the style, or using Style Magic YA. I did that to be able to insert some guitar arpeggiators in style and it works like a charm.

In my experience, Yamaha does not generally provide feature updates that actually add anything useful. The main exception was the Genos V2 update a few years ago which actually did add something new. NB this is not a criticism - as long as you don't expect Yamaha to make any post-release updates, you won't be disappointed.

When I look at the firmware history I see fixes and a lot of changes before version 2.0.

What you could try maybe is creating an arpeggio with the midi editor and create a multi-pad with the midi file.

I placed my Jupiter-X above my Genos 2. The Jupiter-X supports shuffle on the arpeggiator and even has a dedicated knob for it. The Jupiter-X arpeggiator is MIDI synced to the Genos 2 clock. So far, having a Jupiter-X and Genos 2 together is proving to be a really good keyboard combination. But, requiring more gear to make up for functions that should be there is not the ideal solution. Especially if it means users must turn to other brands for workarounds. Hopefully Yamaha will introduce more arpeggiator functions in a future update. I don't consider shuffle an advanced function. It should be there. (The same with voice editing)
