If a person were to purchase a CVP - 909, can they expect some of the features of the Genos2 ?

Does anyone here have a 909 ?

Ron,
Just looking at the specs I would say no.
I am also in trouble understanding what Is different from the 809 model....

Here in Canada it looks like they are approximately $12000 (Canadian) + Tax.   Also I could not find any used "809's" here in Canada.

I have a CVP 809 and have listened many times to videos of the CVP 909. I hear no difference. It may be better to buy a CVP 809 and invest in good virtual instruments.

Alas, you missed your last 809 by a week (we still have the grand piano 809's though)

So we also only have 909's left for upright CVP's

The 809 and 909 are both based on Genos 1, not 2.

Well I'm sure that it shares a lot of features with Genos 2, but so did Genos 1, CVP809 and other Yamaha arranger type keyboards. But I think you mean does it have any new arranger features unique to Genos2. And the answer is pretty definitely no, because it came out before G2. And people are saying that there aren't many 'new' arranger features in G2 over G1 anyway. So not sure that it all matters.

I know that there are not big differences between CVP 809 and 909, so whether you want to buy the latest model or save a little by buying the older model, is a personal choice, not really based on keyboard features or performance. Both would be brand new.

When faced with the exact same decision on 805 vs 705, I played both for about an hour, and ended up buying the older model. I could see a small difference, in appearance, but I couldn't hear one. My only regret is that I now wish I had splashed out the extra on the 709. But not the 800 series.

Dear friends,

I have Genos 1, and also a Clavinova CVP 309 in Polished Ebony finish.

IMHO the updated/advanced features are very important when selecting the arranger to buy. For playing music Clavinova are all beautiful: the quality of the keys, the integrated audio system, the cabinet itself, are all factors that make these piano/arrangers (I would rather say "piano with accompaniment") very precious and long lasting.

My CVP is from 2004 (!) and still looks brand new (I only had the keys contacts be replaced by Yamaha assistance, at my home). And although I play every day my Genos, it is also a joy to play with Clavinova. They are different instruments.

Therefore, I would not pay too much of attention to the differences between recent CVP models, as 709, 809 and 909. They are all premium instruments.

Ciao,

Angelo

I cannot find any "Used" 809's in Canada !  Do people generally trade up or do they just keep it ?

I cannot see many trading up an 809 for a 909, there is not enough difference. So finding a used 809 may not be a real possibility.
I'm not sure I would even be tempted to trade up a 709 or even 609 for a 909. I might trade a 705 or 805 for a 909 to get the better keyboard ... but even that is a big maybe.
Traditionally CVP owners tend to keep their instruments a long time even if some new features appear on later models, because they usually regard them as 'pianos with extras' and are less driven to upgrade by detailed arranger features. And it's a pretty big piece of furniture, so trading a CVP is a bit more hassle than trading a portable keyboard.
Your best bet to save a bit of money is probably to find some dealer with new 809s in stock that they are discounting to make room for the new 909 models. I know my dealer in Houston still hadn't received any new 909s a few months ago.

I don't see anybody trading an 809 in for a 909... we have a customer who wanted to, just because it was newer. When we explained to him it's the *exact* same mother board and chipset and sound library, with only different coloured LED's, a proper half damper, and the (slightly inferior) CFX sample but the very slightly better Bosendorfer, *nothing* else has changed. He may still do it, but we've already explained to him there's no reason to (unless you are colour blind, or really need that half damper)

I've also emailed Yamaha global to see if they have any spare 809's they can import into Canada, but the well has run dry. It's 909 now. Unlikely to see used 809's, but we are still getting used 709's and earlier as trade ins, as there is quite a difference between a 709 and a 909.
We have lots of 805's left though, so if you're ok with PSRsx900 tech vs Genos tech on a 909...
