Using Genos(1) registrations on Genos 2

Hi - when I bought my Genos (1), I took all my Registrations from my Tyros 5, loaded them into the Geno, then modified each to use the new sounds and some new styles, etc.  This was easier than creating my then ~700 or so registrations ALL from scratch on the Genos.  It worked pretty well. It still took a fair amount of time, but I didn't have to "start all over" creating those ~700 or so Registrations.

I'm curious if anyone has used (then modified) Genos 1 registrations on Genos 2, and if they work OK (I know that they won't use the new voices, new styles, new reverb).  I mainly wonder if I can do that for my now ~900+ (might be closer to 1000!) Registrations, so that I don't have to "start-from-scratch" to create all  of them.  I'm OK with (and used to) modifying my old registrations when I get a new Yamaha keyboard - so that I can use the newer better Piano, other new voices, in some cases new Styles, and maybe modify the "mix" (volumes) a bit, etc.  But I sure don't want to (if/when I get a Genos2) create 900-1000 registrations completely from scratch.

Has anyone done this ('migrated' their Genos 1 styles over to Genos 2) and if so, how did it work out?

Thanks! -Jim

It worked well. It deals with the Styles whose names have changed from G1 to G2.  It did something in seconds that would have taken weeks by hand.

I noticed that all customized scale tunes from my Genos1 registration does not work on Genos2. the solution I found is to go thorough all registration and edit the scale tune and save it on the Genos2. ;D

My G1 registrations work well on G2 and sound much better as well.

I wonder if T5 registrations work ok on G2?

EileenL

Yes Del they will and they will sound a lot better too

Eileen ... did you alter your G1 registrations such as to use newer/better sounds from G2?  And did you change the Reverb on the G1 registrations, to use the newer G2 reverb?

Thanks!

Hi Jim,
I have changed some of them and changed to the new reverb but most of my registrations sound so good as they are.
I have made a start up reg bank which has all the ticks in of things I want saved for my use. I will slowly go through them all and change to some of the new styles as and when I get the time.

This sounds good - it sounds like if/when I get a G2, I'll be able to fairly easily migrate my many Registrations over from G1 to G2.  I'm glad I won't have to "start-from-scratch".  I do know that to take best advantage of the new sounds, reverb, styles, etc., that I'll likely want to go into each of my Reg's and 'tweak' a bit - I don't mind doing that.  This gives me a better feeling about possibly moving to G2 maybe next year . . . thanks for your responses!   -Jim

Yes Jim,
There is no problem with loading Registration banks, Style, Multi Pad and songs over to Genos2. Just copy the contents of Genos1 user to Computer via linking them up and then all you need do is copy that content back either to G2 User or a USB stick.

Thanks; yes, it sounds like it will be nearly identical to how I migrated over my Registrations, pads, other stuff, when I went from Tyros1 to Tyros3, then from T3 to T5, then from T5 to G1, then to G2.  They always loaded in fine on a newer keyboard, and I just had to tweak/adjust, select new voices/pads/effects if I want them, and I was good to go.  It usually took me a few months to "play through" all my Registrations, tweak a bit, until I felt I had my Registrations ready to take advantage of the new sounds, styles, pads, effects, etc. from a new keyboard.  It was always FUN doing that (albeit took some time), as I got to play hundreds of songs that way!  :-)

Dear colleagues, I have a problem with Tyros 3.5 and then Genos, from the beginning I incorrectly arranged the folders differently than the structure of the instrument, e.g. I created the MY TEXT directory in the main TEXT directory and there are text files in it. similarly, in the main directory, e.g. SONG, I created the Song midi and song audio directories and the same in registrations. How can I get rid of these directories and arrange the files according to the instrument's system? Thank you in advance for your advice

Assuming that you have a usb cable connection from your Genos and PC and the PC is switched on.
Hold down the "PLAYLIST" button when switching on the Genos which will put it in usb storage mode and you will be able to see the Genos as a drive on the PC where you will be able to delete folders and files. Just be very careful that you do not delete any file structures that the Genos needs to operate correctly.

Hi lut112,

Please note that the Genos1/2 user drive does NOT correspond to the internal hard drive (HD1) of Tyros models. You can create any folders on the internal Tyros hard drive and on USB sticks (regardless of which keyboard model) and manage your files there completely freely. The only thing you have to pay attention to is that files used in registrations (e.g. User Styles, User Multi Pads, MIDI files, Text files) may not be renamed or moved afterwards. Otherwise the relevant registrations will no longer be able to find these files.

To use files stored on a Tyros hard drive directly on Genos1/2, just copy the entire hard drive contents in USB storage mode to a new folder on the computer and from there to the ROOT of a USB stick. Connect this USB stick to Genos and everything will work directly from this STICK. Do NOT copy this Tyros data to the Genos user drive (!), at least when it comes to registrations that use external files as mentioned above. The reason is that the Genos user drive (just like the user drive on Tyros and PSR-S/SX models) has a main folder structure predetermined by the system and it also uses a drive letter ("C:/") that is different from the first USB stick ("I:/").

The internal Tyros hard drive also has a different drive letter ("E:/"), but if you copy the Tyros hard drive contents to a USB stick as described above (without changing the original folder structure), and then on the Genos use it FROM THE STICK, the "E:/" drive letter in the Tyros registrations will be automatically replaced by "I:/" and everything will work as usual on the Tyros hard drive.

If you still want to copy the Tyros data to the Genos user drive, you must observe the main folder structure specified there and definitely change registrations that use user files (i.e. re-link/re-memorize the relevant styles, etc.).

Best regards,
Chris
