Loading multiple expansion packs

After registering my G2, I downloaded the two expansion packs, DX7 and Genos complete packs.  Unzipped the files, put them in the YEM and produced the pack files. However when I load the first pack it tells me all data will be deleted, which is ok as at this point I don't have any packs installed. When I try to install the second pack, I get the same message, and the first pack is deleted. So how do I install more than one pack? Am I missing something obvious?

Yes, you do  :)
In YEM you can have as many packs installed at once as you wish. But when you select Install Target (Genos2), then you need to select all packs (content of the packs actually) that you wish to be inside your final install pack.
That is, you create single install pack which contains previously selected content (two packs, for example) and when you install such expansion pack on keyboard, everything will be installed at once.

i have to wonder why yamaha implemented expansion packs like this.  of course we want to install multiple packs without creating our own "combo packs" using additional software.

in montage and modx, no problem to install multiple expansions.  just put them on USB stick and install.

this whole business seems crazy.  is there some real benefit that I am overlooking?

thanks.

Actually we can install additional content (packs) without deleting already installed content. In that case we need to create so called "quick installation pack". But speaking for me, it's a bit awkward and so I never use that option (I don't install stuff that often anyway). On the other hand, for keyboards that have a lot of expansion memory (Genos), it's a thing to consider: because it can shorten the installing time significantly. I suggest you check manual for that.

If there's a benefit by having such (YEM) process? Not really.. if something like YEM would be built into keyboard OS, then we wouldn't need it -but it isn't.
Speaking for me, I don't mind having external program (YEM) for such tasks. The problem for me is YEM itself, because it's very limited and can sometimes be difficult to work with.

With YEM you can also change a sound as "Voice edit" does, and edit/change/remove the 8 elements of some of the Genos sounds.
It's possible for example, to change velocity layers, and note ranges, for some element to appear/disappear depending on the note or the velocity.
You then save the new sound and can associate it with a pack.

So YEM is more than just an heavy process to load packs into Genos.

Yem is outdated and clunky.
It is about time somebody put some thought into this commodore 64 style graphics program that's got the jitters producing a decent one for loading packs and sound design.
If you test a sound in Yem you notice quite a bit of latency and for the Steinberg driver  10ms at 512 is sad.Not good enough.
That is my little rant over. ;D
People have to remember we pay a large some for this keyboard that has in reality been cosmetically tweaked with a Revelation reverb and a DX 7 generator with a handful of sounds and unable to load our own.
The Genos 2 sounds are better i will agree and Yamaha has done well to give us midi to stylemaker that looks a decent program.
As for YEM it is an after thought.
Genos, I7 computer 32 gig ram, Focusrite 6i6, Cubase controller, Focal Alpha Monitors, Yamaha DXR8 Speakers
Cubase 10, Sonarworks, Izotope.  Sampletank, Arturia and Korg software.  Now IK Mixbox
