Hi, Im thinking of upgrading to Genos 2 from Genos..... Just wondering what should I be saving from the G1 ?

mikf

I would think only any personal files, like user edited styles, voices, songs etc. or stuff you have imported from third parties that you like.

I've saved those Genos V2.0 styles as single files in case the expansion download doesn't work. I probably didn't need to but those styles are excellent and didn't want to lose them in case.

Save everything   :)

There will be many changes to remastered styles which you may like to exchange with the old version.

This is the only answer!

Save everything. All your G1 registrations, styles, midis, multipads will work on G2 as well, save it all.

I just linked my Genos up to my computer and saved everything on my user section so I can use everything I have or just load what I want. I also have it baked up to a 64Gb USB pen drive.

Save everything by:

  • Using the built-in backup function in the Menu
  • Connecting the Genos in USB Storage Mode through USB to a computer and copy the whole folder structure with files to your computer

USB thumb drive, as Eileen points out, could work as well, but I never tried it.

Hi Eileen/maartenb,

Does this also include all the expansion pack styles?

Thanks very much.

If you have saved the pack styles from the packs as a separate Item on your Genos then they will be backed up during this process. If not they will remain on the YEM.

Thank you Eileen I had a suspicion it was that way, but was hoping for something a bit easier! I will be doing this later tonight, start backing up styles from my favourite packs only. I know it will use some of the exclusive drums and voices but I have managed to re voice a few before so I am not too bothered about losing the voices if I can't back them up as a single entry either.

At the very worse I also have the SX900 with the same packs for the most part that can assist if I get stuck for when I no longer have the G1.

Thanks,
Danny

I always advise to copy ALL the onboard styles, not just User and 3rd party ones. As we know, Yamaha tweak and revoice styles from model to model, but often keep the same names for the styles. There will be occasions when you're used to using a given style, you know exactly what you're going to hear in each variation, intro and ending. It can come as a musical surprise or shock when that style with the same name does something rather different! And you may even prefer the older or original version. I'm still using Piano Ballad from the PSR2000, revoiced of course!
It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Yes this is what I also do as well, for example some of my favourite styles on T4 came across on the Genos with different intros and different fills as well that I didn't like so it's always worth keeping the originals.

Thank you all for your help....
Next question..... when I got my Genos I tweaked the EQ to the "Gold Setting" is there a way of saving this, or will this just save if I copy the hard drive and install on the G2 ?

EileenL

Make sure you write down the settings so that if they don't copy you can put them in again. I never liked them much preferred the pre-set ones.

Thanks Eileen, I'll take a few photo's just in case.

User Effects settings can also be saved to USB stick - I saved to the same stick I use for everything else on my Genos.

The procedure is explained  from about 6:49 in the Yamaha Genos 2 Compatibility Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_Uwn0Oaocg

The video shows how to backup from your G1 and restore the settings to your G2.
