Greetings!!

That moment has finally come. Is anyone more excited than me about getting the new Genos II??  I ordered mine yesterday. I read a post somewhere saying Genos II starts shipping on November 15th. I've watched the newest teaser and I love this corny stuff!  I imagine my friends in Europe will get theirs first, then the US. That's how Yamaha did it before. I find it hard to believe that if this Nov 15th is indeed the launch (I believe!) I would expect more "leaks' whether intentional or not.

I'm also to well aware that the world is not like it was before. Covid, world economy, natural and man made disasters. These things have all interfered with our normal sense of normalcy.  Finally seeing a new Genos released has restored some of that normalcy for me. I need Genos II!!   -charley

Stubby

Rattley, you asked if anyone is more excited than you.  I might qualify!  No way would I think of replacing my aging vehicle for something newer when a new Genos is on the horizon!  As someone else said, Yamaha never disappoints!

Lee Batchelor

Good for you, Charley! As soon as you can, please provide us with a review. In Canada, we'll be getting our first G2s months after you wear out some of your knobs 🤣.

I agree with Stubby & Rattley!
When Genos 1 was released, it was met with & welcomed with utmost enthusiasm! Although some kept their Tyros', they did NOT complain about the Genos being disappointing, but they did not upgrade for their reasons.
I, too, have pre-ordered the G2 as Yamaha ALWAYS improves on their products & they do not disappoint, & do not release the product unfinished.
So, I have complete faith in Yamaha to regale us on Nov 15th with a product that will be sensational, I have no doubt. I even sold my PSR-SX900 2 months ago in anticipation.
Yamaha does not need pre-release hoopla, as excitement is growing without it!
Here's to G2! Chin Chin!

Dealers in the UK probably have not got the actual price and Part exchange prices set out yet so will not take pre orders until they have these so they know what to ask as a deposit.

Before to pre-order, I must see what this new version will do. If they doesn't include most of our complaints (solved), I wait for a software update which may include ones, and probably some other I can take them as they are. But deffinitelly some of major complaints must be solved in Genos 2 to be bought by me. Otherwise, not.

Must admit I never found any major complaints. My keyboard did what I expected it to do. There could have been a few small changes made on some screens and quantize added to multi pad creator but it has served me well for six years.

Hi to all those that PRE-ORDERED

Have you actually ordered (ie entered a contract) or have you simply "Registered your Interest" with a dealer.

Complaints may be the wrong word ... shortcomings or limitations may be more accurate. Although these TOTL arrangers are amazing for the cost, no arranger does absolutely everything the most demanding users would like. And depending on how you use it, some of those shortcomings and limitations may be important or not to the individual.
I think what Valimaties  means is that he will wait to see which of those (if any) get addressed in this new offering, before deciding if a change is worth it to him. But I think that's what we all do. Because changing an arranger you have had for a while is not just a cost, it's also a hassle. You have to move everything you want to keep, negotiate a part exchange, physically move everything, and then start a new learning journey. The main reason my CVPs are outdated by several models is not the cost, it's all that hassle. Just not been worth  it - so far.  The effort required at my advanced age would well outweigh any increased pleasure.

My own pet dislike on current models is that I would like a much slicker way to do a final mix on a recording. What I envisage is that when you convert midi to audio you could sit with the channel screen up and move the sliders as you listen to get a final mix - just like a recording engineer would do at his desk. If they introduced that on a latest CVP I would be tempted.
I would never change my current CVPs  for a Genos, no matter what is on it. But if this feature is on the latest Genos, then that would be great, because I know that sooner or later, this and maybe some other slick features, will appear on the future CVP models. So I watch the Genos 2 offering with interest.

have you simply "Registered your Interest" with a dealer.

This.

When the keyboards are delivered to the dealer, or when the dealer is allowed by Yamaha to start selling them (probably November 15th or 16th), they will be sold in order of the names on the list.

Good morning,

If all goes well, I should be able to return home on November 16 with the Genos 2 or, failing that, receive it during the following week.

I'm shocked and perplexed at the folks who have actually placed an order for an unseen, unevaluated, and unheard product!

What do you know that the rest of us don't??   Must have LOTS of disposable income out there.

Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your point of view), we in Canada have no anxiousness of a November 15 release date. We'll be able to hear it on the internet but we'll be lucky to see our first models in stores well after Christmas - probably February '24.

For me to move to Genos 2, the price must be worth it. I'll get a substantially less trade in price for my Genos because of the crappy build quality. And yes, I have babied this keyboard for 6 years! It has worn out prematurely. Some buttons have lost their markings and one is still broken. I have the replacement but must work up the courage to take it apart and replace it ;D. There are several shiny spots where the black matting has worn off. Hopefully, Yamaha will have resisted the urge to make the same dumb mistake with G2!!

Hi Lee

Yes ,i wished a Yamaha spokesman would kindly appear on this forum and assure prospective buyers that the numbers and all symbols printed on keys will not wear off on such an expensive keyboard.

We want assurances rather than teasers :) ;)

That to me is the biggest downer  and should not be printed on top , but like the Tyros inside.
Better still why have numbers etc printed on buttons, just have them printed above buttons.

All the Best
John :)
Ps I would get Yamaha dealer to put your new buttons in

Hi John,

I tried to get Yamaha to replace the buttons under warranty. They have a factory service center about 45 minutes from my door. They refused. I'm not sure what they quoted for the replacement but I think it was around $150 in labor plus the gouge and screw tax. When I complained about it, they agreed to send me the replacement part for around $12.00. Do the math on that one!

I have a friend who is an IT expert and builds computers. He said he could help with the replacement. It doesn't look too difficult. Just need to take several pics as I go. Recently, our bass player told me he has a retired friend who used to service Yamaha keyboards for a living. For a few bucks cash, he'd likely do it in 20 minutes or less. So, I have options.

The stupid button should not have broken in the first place >:(!!! During a performance, one needs to hit those buttons pretty fast. The tendency is to land hard on them. NEVER had this issue with the Tyros series. With Genos, Yamaha cheaped out in favor of bigger profits. Welcome to the "new Yamaha" ::)!

I like how the SX900 is built, seems quite solid and I like the buttons too, where the lettering is just carved in.

Lee Batchelor

Good to hear, Danny. Screw up the flagship version but make it right on the follow-up, less expensive model. Real smart.

There's always a group of people who directly or soon buy the next Yamaha keyboard when it comes out. Playing the arranger is so much fun to them and they love having the newest board. This happened also with the Tyros models. Nothing new here, actually.

What do you know that the rest of us don't??

Well, if you look back on the list of continuous innovations and improvements Yamaha made with each new model (see list here), it's easy to extrapolate and expect the new model to be better. How much, and whether I will use it, I have no idea, of course. But Yamaha have consistently delivered high quality keyboards (the breaking button hinges and the fading button texts on the Genos are an exception and very un-Yamaha like).

Must have LOTS of disposable income out there.

It's less of a financial strain than you think. Of course it's a lot of money, but if you automatically save a certain amount every month, you'll always have the money when the new model comes out. I calculated years ago, that I needed to save about €60 each month to be able to buy the new model every three years. This time it is even easier, as there are six years in between the models, and I kept saving all this time.

It's something I grew into. My first two keyboards were second hand. I discovered that I really like arrangers and my first brand-new keyboard was a Tyros 4 (which was released a year before I bought it).

This is however the first time I preordered the new model without knowing what the improvements are and it's also the first time I sold my keyboard before it was officially known that a new model was coming. I did this as an experiment in an attempt to save money.

"Preordered" might give the wrong impression here, if you take the meaning of "pay now, get the product later". I merely registered my interest, with a gentleman's agreement that I intend to buy it.

Maarten, saving a set amount each month to finance your hobby.......very disciplined and commendable but I doubt it's what most people do.  You might even say it's  endearingly old fashioned. :D
Probably most just use a credit card. The upgrade is a few thousand, about the cost of a very modest vacation or even a lavish weekend break. Obviously not a disqualifying amount for millions of people in Europe or USA.

Hi Lee
I think that Yamaha in your part of the country are stingy and not what i thought.
Here in UK they are very helpful, but out of guarantee i could not answer that one.
I do hope you can get one of your guys to fix the problem for you.
Like i said we want assurances from Yamaha to say they have fixed the problem or later there will be some angry faces :-[ :)

All the Best
John :)

Ps i just won £200 off of £20 on a cup match in uk and purchased the Ozone 10 to 11 upgrade.
I celebrated with a few Southen Comforts :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
