What does "Your next masterpiece" mean for the direction of arrangers?

The Genos 2 teaser is called "Your next masterpiece". This clearly hints at songwriters/arrangers.

Yamaha started in that direction with the marketing of Genos (1) "Take control of your music" and they seem to continue that with the 2.

Even though the majority of buyers will probably still be home players, I hope Yamaha succeed in opening up new markets for the new instrument. More sales of arrangers benefit us all.

Hi Maarten
If seamless switching is implemented that will enhance things.
A decent stylemaker. Even if we have to pay for a decent program.
Step your own Styles, Get rid of looper and have a good looking chord step mode
Better sounds and the rest would be a masterpiece.
Less schlager and EDM and more rock, esoteric, soul, Tamla, reggae, ska, latin rock,60's and 70's music.
After all us cool Rock & pop oldies need our generation back with sun and fun. Our generation seems to have been missed out.

"Come up and make me Smile"    Yamaha Harley :) ;D ;D
Genos, I7 computer 32 gig ram, Focusrite 6i6, Cubase controller, Focal Alpha Monitors, Yamaha DXR8 Speakers
Cubase 10, Sonarworks, Izotope.  Sampletank, Arturia and Korg software.  Now IK Mixbox

-as you say: marketing.
In advertisements catchy words are used for everything; doesn't matter if for some pimple gel, shampoo or a car. They mean nothing, have absolutely no relation to product and only have one purpose: to "burn-in" the product in our brain.

Agree with all but music styles. Yamaha must implement styles for younger generations.

Mmm.. why ..Any Yammie fan has a library with tens of thousands of styles! So a preset of most genres covers it, right?  ;)
The only criticism is the arrangement of the styles in the correct (or to less buttons) sections. Yamaha has made a mess of that.
My best regards,
Ton

The older generation is still around in high numbers and are the ones who can afford these high-priced arrangers. The day we get pushed aside with styles that mimic this so-called "modern music," will be the day Yamaha loses a lot of good paying customers. Therefore, Yamaha must keep both old and new styles. I'm sure that's what you meant anyway 😬.

Adding to John's thoughts, there needs to be a serious upgrade to the traditional styles with 2, 4, or 8 bar, "same old" patterns. Round robin technology has been around for at least 20 years but has never been incorporated into a Yamaha arranger. New arrangers MUST have that. Even the best styles get boring after a while. They become so predictable. When Yamaha creates a new keyboard, they make minimal changes to some of the common styles, such as an extra phrase added or some notes removed. They re-voice the same old styles with new voices and brag that the keyboard contains x number of styles when in reality, there are only a handful of new styles. If all these things are addressed, only then will I stand in line for the upgrade. Otherwise, I'll stick with my Genos 1.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Genos and it's still the best out there, but Ketron and Korg have raised the bar. Hopefully, Yamaha will clear that new height with feet to spare. On the idea of a November 15 release, we in Canada can add three months to that figure before we can sit down and try out Genos 2, unless Yamaha has changed their distribution scheme. I won't hold my breath on that latter thought :o.

I think what we want and "wish lists" are great but they won't make any difference as the Genos 2 has already been made, finalized, and probably shipped to certain destinations!
All we can now do is wait, and accept what it is, or not! Personally, I will take it, as I already have my pre-order in.

I really don't want the 'old styles' to disappear. I would like a better balance, less styles but better ones.

There's good music and bad music in every style. EDM also includes Vangelis and JMJ.

I'm 53 and I listen to a lot of different styles of music. Personally, I find classic rock, based on bass, drums and electric guitars, particularly boring. Always the same patterns, the same classic sounds....

But I really like Rammstein and their dark electronic ambience.

The way I listen to EDM music is not at all the same as the way I listen to more classical music.

We all have our own tastes.

Buying such an instrument can be very difficult for young people under the age of 25-30, but generally speaking I think it's wrong to say that only old people have enough money for such instruments, because some synthesizers are in the same price category. It's motivation above all that's important, and young people won't be motivated if they can't reproduce the tracks they listen to.

A nice surprise would be some sort of collaboration with Band In A Box, with an endless supply of styles.

Lee Batchelor

Fully agreed, Soundphase. Younger people think they can afford just about anything thanks to that little plastic card 😬. Seriously, there is room for all styles. Fortunately, there are enough so that we can just ignore the ones we don't use.

At nearly 74, I'm no youngster.

I think it is wrong to assume the generalisation that all old people only like to listen to and play old-fashioned music, much the same that it is wrong to generalise that old people don't know how to use smartphones and computers. Myself, and numerous others of my generation, have been using (and perhaps programming) computers since home computers became popular in the 1980's.

Yamaha put a text prompt into "MarketGPT" and that's what popped out.  ;D

I surrender, already. Too much marketing B.S. everywhere!  :D  Thoughtful communication is dead...

P.S. I'm with Roy. I'd like to see smooth jazz, real jazz, real funk. Hire George Clinton to make styles.

Agreed; I *can't* believe they handicapped the chord step recording mode on the Genos, but not the PSRs!!!! On the PSRs, you can chord step a user style, on the Genos you can't. Like wth.

Disagree with less schlager though; no, I don't use those  styles either, but their single largest market *does*. Although I supposed they could just offer those in downloadable packs, like they do with the other 2 really large markets (Oriental/Middle East, and India)

Good evening,

What excitement!!!
When I think that a few weeks ago, many refused to admit that a new Genos model could appear during the month of November.

I'm kidding

Don't think people were refusing to admit a new Genos model was coming. Just didn't trust the source. :) Lots of people looking into their crystal ball and making predictions. Once a reliable source (Yamaha) gave a date, then obviously people get 'excited' .

Genos2, Montage M6, Maschine Micro NI, Cubase 13, Komplete 14 Ultimate, Arturia Analog Lab, HALion7, Groove Agent 5, HS8 Speakers.

Exactly. It's a good thing to not trust unverified sources, not a bad thing, as some would have us think.

"next masterpiece" sure does suggest at the least a weener-tease aimed at composers no?

Current GENOS sure failed to live up to the supposed composer-songwriter-worstation hype..

Hello

I can see monthly subscriptions as the future emerges.  There is already plenty of  of websites that provide content that way. I use  Reason a lot, formerly known as Propellerhead Software. I pay $20 per month for continuous updates and content.  I didn't think I would like it, but I do.  I get all their current and future instruments and effects as released. Works for me!   -charley

PS  I think vArranger is implementing an optional subscription service

Well its clearly a lie -

apart from - FINALLY - adding audio over USB- the CHORD LOOPER still is not editable. and theres no piano roll so - sadly - in no way is this a suitable or even helpful tool. for composition - in my humble opinion...

sad.

I was hoping to have Genos 2 be my trigger- bu all they've managed to go do is put those CHORD LOOPER buttons as found on my PSR SX 900 - on the Genos 2...

seriously underwhelmed with this release -

and as others said the instruments sounded good already - what was needed was more workflow stuff imo -

and if one man band boards are what one needs? why not go to real instruments and tracks - as in the latest KETRON?

sigh....

Well there's two directions you can take that:

  • mimic more realism
  • just make it real

They did a tiny fraction of the former by adding the dynamics dial, but it's not even a new dedicated knob so points lost. At this rate they will probably add that knob on the SXX900 and you have to wait for a Genos 3 to get it on the flagship machine.
And as for the microphone drum ambiance positioning? Who cares and is going to mess around with that?!

I'm sure more could be done with an added intensity dial for example, giving each style variation in essence unlimited variety as well. Reduce notes, make some non accent notes quieter. There are many possibilities there I suspect.

And the rhythmic / strumming style pads on the PA5X are light years ahead of what I thought the Genos 1 had, that definitely could be improved. Maybe the multipads are better on the Genos 2 but I found most useless on the Genos 1 to be honest.
Dedicating these completely to each style seemed to work better on the PA5X and thus gives you more flexibility with each style. Even playing against just those pads and taking things down completely in a style and then rev things up again was awesome to jam with.
Without Music, Life would be a Mistake.
