Hi.
Some of us Norwegians don't ride the same day as we sadle the horse, so Genos 2 or whatever it will be called may come when it comes.
I've thought about it for a long time, and finally taken the plunge and bought a nicely used PA4X-76 (screen protection is still on) and placed it at the stand beside of Genos.
To me it seems like a great combination, very happy about it, and I guess I need both the winter and spring to explore it more closely.
So guys and gals, just carry on with all the guessing about Genos 2 or not, I'm going to be busy with those two 'babies' of mine for a long time....  8) :D ;D

Del

Hi Gunner
Funny you should mention that I am in the market for the new Genos, and possibly the Korg Pa5x to sit on top, so with that combo I am hoping I get a good return deal on my T5 with the dealer I buy them from, two top end arrangers in one sale probably don't occur very often.

JohnS (Ugawoga)

Me
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Pax5 is the pits.
I do not like it at all from all videos etc.
Yamaha is worth waiting for but Technics way back were better.
Now Yamaha has taken the floor.
Eileen was right --WAIT!!!! :)
Eileen is the Yamaha magic fairy and has all the wisdom :) WAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!! :P

Amen to that!
But that was then .... or as it's written in a song:  Those where the days my friend, we thought they never end....  :D ;D

ton37

Yeah, the Technics sx-kn 7000 .... a revolutionair design for that days ... and not only a titable screen, but the whole instrument panel was tiltable ..
And when you closed that panel you had a flat workbench/sitetable, so practical and so  ergonomic. Strange that no company has adapt that concept? Probably something to do with copyright  ::) The only thing that Yamaha has adapt is the SX in the name ;D ;)

Good morning,

I have to be patient, now that my Genos has been sold for a very good price because it was still in new condition!
Waiting was not an option for me because many second-hand Genoses will be offered for sale very soon.
Hopefully Yamaha will continue the momentum of Genos1 because it is a top arranger,
but with the addition of a worthy organ section and some very good pianos like in the CVP.
In the meantime I play on my new Pa5x 76 which has fantastic functions and above all a very good Livefeeling!!
People who sometimes comment on Pa5x should play this competitor for a few days and will have different thoughts about it!
Is Pa5x better than Genos? no but different!!

ton37

Yeah @musicman01, you are in a privileged position that, while you wait for (the launch and delivery) of the Genos II, you have a good alternative at your disposal. That at least makes the wait bearable.
My best regards,
Ton

musicman01

Ton,
indeed that is true.
I did the same in 2017 with my Tyros 5, when I still had a Wersi Abacus Duo.
Experience shows that this method is financially most beneficial.
At the same time I can test out the possibilities of my Korg Pa5x 76, and that is not too bad.
As far as Pa5x is concerned, many unjustified bad reviews are given,
because the new Pa5x is also experiencing a major evolution in terms of the operating system,
now with the new version v1.20 the major improvement is already visible!
That was the same when Genos came out, which is also why many Tyros users have not switched!
There have already been prejudices here and there are probably people who have not even seen the new Pa5x up close.
PS: Organs and pianos are very good, hopefully GenosII will follow!

valimaties

@musicman01, comparing PA4X style recorder with PA5X style edit function, there are still bugs in the PA5X. You cannot change the time signature of a variation part, even if you cut the unwanted measures, in edit of the style channels there are still missing functions. And sometimes the keyboard become unresponsive in style edit. Only a restart can be made.
I like PA5X because is closer to Genos right now, it is not anymore that strange graphical interface from pa2->pa4. Now it looks more like Yamaha than a Korg. What differes than Yamaha is that Korg gives more freedom in editing directly on keyboard, like editing drums on styles, voice editor, all you will find in keyboard.

musicman01

@Valimaties,
Many issues have been resolved in V1.20.
There are still things in the style editor that are still being resolved,
but at the moment the style editor of the Pa5x is much more powerful than Genos as well as the Voice editor!
I haven't had any problems with freezing since the last version.
The operating system works very well almost like Genos.
In the Pa5x you can edit much more in the device itself,
but as always it is more for advanced users who know what they are doing.
A lot will change and improve in the next updates

nonchai

LMAO..

but yes - sure - don't mind cud-chews on Genos2

Dear @musicman01,
if you read the KorgForum (if you are memeber there, but it doesn't matter that) you will see a lot of complaints about Style Edit in 1.20 version. They missed up a lot of things with this update, most of the guitar tracks does not work as it has to work, wrong #CC conversion, missing things like "Delete + key" function, copy a variation to another does not work in "All" mode, if you set a variation to another length and copy a channel from another variation wich is bigger it will convert the variation to the new length and will lock it to the new length, which by the way is very very bad... and so on... I don't know why you tell it is good as long as it has a lot of bugs! Maybe you don't use it so much in style edit, or your styles does not have a complex structure, who knows!
These are not critics to you, my friend... I just tell you that many users on that forum makes complaints about this keyboard. I have it too and I know that right now I cannot use it to its real power, because of these "little" bugs. And there are more to tell ;D

Sorry for off topic, folks!

Best regards,
Vali

Vali Maties - Genos

musicman01

Dear Valimaties,
You have to be patient, at Korg it takes a little longer, there are many other things that are not good in the Pa5x!!!
But it will be fine, they are currently working very hard on the software.
Even with Genos, not all things have been resolved even until now.
Just to mention a few things, you cannot disable the 4 Pad buttons like with Pa5x,
there is actually no decent voice editor,
loading sounds like with Pa5x is not possible, only via Yem.
Transitions to different sounds where sometimes the speakers almost fly out of the closet!
And there are a number of other things.
PS:You can't call Genos style editor an example either.
Yamaha has not done anything about this after 6 years, so we will give Korg some time.
We'll just have to learn to live with it, right?

"Seamless sound switching" is what I expect the most. It seems that twice the CPU/DSP/... power (one of them) is needed just to ensure the previous sound can continue with the same effects, and that explained why Yamaha chose not to implement it on previous models.

Dear Vali,

I'm surprised to learn about issue of Pa5X style editing.

My last Korg (I had many) was Pa3X and its editing was just perfect and so powerful (much better than Genos).

What you report suggests to wait about one year before to buy a new arranger, until the initial bugs would be fixed. Fortunately everybody is able to know when the initial issues are being solved, thanks to the forums dedicated.

Ciao,

Dear Angelo,
You shouldn't be surprised, the Korg Pa5x is quite a very good arranger!!
Genos is worse in some respects, starting with the exterior finish.
No cheap plastic, text and buttons that fade, A clearly tiltable screen
The 3 kilograms more weight of the Pa5x will not make a difference.

...

Musicman01, nobody said that PA5X is a bad arranger. The sound is great on the outs and yes is more live-feeling than Genos, at least for my country's music genres.
I said only about some issues unsolved and about Style Editing function which is buggy comparing with PA4X or PA3X, and that is what Angelo said also. I definitelly know that in near future some of the bugs in style editing will be solved. I remember PA4X and even PA3X came with some issues in Style Recording function which was finally solved, so I still believe that those from PA5X will be solved too. Time is our enemy  ;D so I have to wait to be able to use it for my needs. I already said that right now I cannot make different length variations using copy function from another variation, I have to write each variation or fill from scratch, which is very hard and time-consumming for me at least.

Cheers!

I have a Pa5X, and what you are saying is not true.

you can copy variations really easy and of course if you copy tracks that are longer then the variation or intro is also increased with that length, that is completely normal, because you copied a longer track and that track will play for the copied length. It's not true that it's locked to that length, in the style edit you have an option to cut or insert measures for the selected track, so you can modify it to any length you want.

I use guitar tracks all the time ( i even added two tutorials for this, and I didn't notice any problems with them), so what doesn't work, without examples or named guitar pads that doesn;t work It's not possible to check if this is true. (I couldn't find an example of this problem on korgforums).

delete notes is also possible, there is a menu item for this where you can delete notes from the track (for instance remove a kick from a drum pattern), it's different method than on the pa4x, but again, this is a new OS with new choices of how to do things, it's not a pa4x where they changed the 4 in a 5.

On topic about the Genos 2,
I have a genos 1 and looking forward to new functionality on the genos 2. I hope that they get rid of that very old YEM solution and that there will be more possiblities to modify things on the genos itself.

Nope. Fake.

It's a supposedly upcoming live stream with the title "Demo Yamaha Genos 2 Peter Baartmans", which we have seen coming and going multiple times now. This channel is notorious for announcing live streams that never happen.

@Valimaties: Let those who keep commenting on it decide for themselves not to read it and then they don't have to comment. It is not prohibited (even by the website owner himself!) to talk about another brand. Unfortunately, there is no separate section for this, so... Such a comment often arises from something that came up with a Yamaha keyboard. I read such answers with interest. I'm not that 'pure' and a little 'off-topic' isn't that bad. It usually gets better on its own.
You are of course free to do it via PM, but don't let anyone stop you from speaking/writing freely.
I would rather read that than keep linking to dubious websites and other fake news.  ;)
Just my 2 cents..

Well, If that is fake then it is all on The Xperience weekend November 24th unless France spills the beans earlier.

OK. Let's see which one of these actually happens first:-

20th October 2023: Demo of New Genos 2 (according to a dodgy Romanian website)

16th November 2023: Demo of New Genos 2 (according to those going to a Sud-Claviers keyboard event)

24th-27th November 2023: Demo of New Genos 2 (according to those expecting it at the Yamaha Xperience weekend)

2026 The End of Humanity (according to the Messiah Foundation International)

2050 NetZero is achieved (according to Wishful Thinking, and if Humanity was not obliterated in 2026 as predicted above)
