I have am thinking of buying a second hand Genos mainly because I dont think i can justify a new one . I imagine the new will cost at least £5000 where i can get a second hand one for about £2000.

Or is it worth waiting to see what new features will be on the new one or will prices come down for the second hand ones?

I maily will use it to play songs on it ,compose using teh sequencer and to use the more realistic sounds especially the drums. I have a psr 770 at the moment.

What do people think?

Thanks

Why don't you wait see what the new Genos offers, compare everything then look at your wallet and decide whether you need a new Genos or a second hand Genos 1. The Genos 1 is a big step up from a PSR 700 and there will be many to buy when the new Genos arrives.

soundphase

If you can't afford a new Genos 2, I think you don't have to wait, unless you will wait one more year for the PSR-SX900 successor

I think the Genos 2 will be very expensive, and that could have an impact on second hand Genos 1 prices.

I was also struggle with this decision and I bought an second hand Genos last week with the original speakers and the original stand only two months old for a fair price.
I came from a SX 700 and I am still learning so I think the Genos 1 will more then good enough for me.
Maybe the price for used one will drop as soon as the new one will be released but I also can imagine that the new one will be very expensive and that will raise
the prices. Both is possible.

By the way. The Genos 1 is a fascinating Keyboard. I enjoy it every day   :)

HOLD!  :)

Patience is a virtue. We're into the Fall, pre-holiday release season. Why not wait a little while?

I'm waiting to see if a new P-525 digital piano is announced. Once something is announced, there are bargains to be had while dealers clear out old stock, people trade-in, and so forth.

Wait, save money, and then buy a good set of monitors, too.  :D

A nice problem to have -- pj

P.S. I agree with Thomas: GENOS (gen 1) is a very good instrument. I do not plan to upgrade to GENOS2.

No, no, don't HOLD! Buy that new Genos 2/3! Those who can afford it have largely upgraded from the T1 to the Genos 1 (Version 2.1). So they will definitely buy the new Genos 2/3. The Genos 2(3 or whatever it is called) will simply beat the Genos 1 by a lot. So far, every keyboard manufacturer has 'proven' that an upgrade leads to improvement. Both in sound, functionality and editing options. So why should things be different now?? So buy that keyboard (Yamaha can thank me!). Yammie can then correct the  problems of 'to early put it in the market' (Yes again, they need your money!)  through various updates. It will be no different than the previous upgrades: criticism everywhere, 'not worth the money, I see no difference, the Tyros 'X' was the best model, do I have to pay so much for this, it's the player not the keyboard, etc. etc.'
In short: the story repeats itself... despite the fact that there will be a new Genos with 61 keys too!! ;)
My best regards,
Ton

OK, we haven't all been exposed to the same Internet memes. Think, William Wallace (movie: Braveheart) holding the line until the enemy gets close. "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes", for Americans.   ;D

HOLD (wait) a few more weeks or whatever and make an informed decision.

Patience is a virtue. Far be it from me to actually tell someone how to spend their own money. :-) Act wisely.

Peace to everyone — pj

Good evening,

On many forums I encountered the same question.

The PSR SX 900 and the GENOS 1 are among the "high-end" at Yamaha, whether new or used.

So I answer: "It's all about the budget."

They are excellent devices each in their category. You just have to see the demos. And we can have fun with each of them.
It is the musician who sublimates the instrument and not the opposite.

Recently, I saw Alois Muller playing on a TYROS 1 which is 20 years old
I advise you to go see him play from 1'25 onwards.
A real musical treat.

With all respect: Aloys Muller is a fantastic keyboard player and a nice guy. Just like Peter Baartmans or any other Yamaha demonstrator. But the display of 'virtuosity' does not help me with the choice of a keyboard. It can even be disheartening to realize that you will never be able to reach that level! That is also a pitfall for demonstrators if they want to show off their 'virtuosity' too much. But they know that too, so they usually keep it simple. So to make and play a nice performance I need a keyboard that helps me a lot. I then imagine myself as the star of my 'show'. I expect that this is a large percentage of those who play their keyboard as a hobby: not all of them are (and perhaps want to be) top talents. Your own pleasure comes first!  ;)
My best regards,
Ton

Totally Agree,

My thoughts are this
Yamaha if they ever make a genos 2 have to contend with the ketron and Pa5x, although both have flaws they are a step forward in terms of technology and in the Korg case has incredible flexibility for programming and sound enhancement.
The yamaha would have at least to match them in those departments ,while being more user friendly.
So if the master stroke was to build anticipation, then that will work, the people who have the pockets will have to have one, its our nature.
But thats where the problem is, if they bring out a new sx900 it will probably be better than the current genos and drive P/x down so for most of us it will be unattainable, so whats yamaha incentive to do so ?
But what if they brought out a module that could be attached to current keyboards with new features, Audio, daw capability BIB etc etc. No additional Keyboard but a new concept a lot cheaper and a massive market oportunity.

Wait 2-3 months. In November we'll know what the Genos 2 looks like, sounds like and what new features it has. If the new keyboard is attractive and the price is right, it will sell well. Remember, people had the opportunity to save for seven years instead of the "regular" three to four years.

If the Genos 2 sells well, second-hand Genos (1) will flood the market and be readily available as part exchange. This will drop the price of a second-hand Genos.

where i can get a second hand one for about £2000.

That's a great deal! I recently sold my Genos for more than that. For that amount of money you'll have a stunning arranger and a great upgrade from your current PSR-770.

IMHO Arranger keyboard manufacturers might have no other choice than to introduce their new products by professionals to show the world the most of the instrument's features and sound performance.

Most people ( 90 % ? ) of this group are hobbyists and want to hear and see if the arranger suits their needs and budget for their hobby.

Buyers should have a lot fun and want to have a plug-and-play, reliable instrument, I guess. ;)
