Error loading some midi files in PSR SX700

Hello friends!
My PSR Sx700 does not load some midi files I have downloaded from "well-considered" websites. It recognizes the files in the USB but it gives an error when loading...
Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Unfortunately the Internet is littered with tens of thousands of rubbish midi files.
To work in your SX-700 they MUST be able to be read in a format that your keyboard understands.
Check out your reference manual for more info.

Hi Javier,

The SX700 can play MIDI files in the formats SMF0, SMF1 and XF (each with the extension .mid). The sound specifications GM (General MIDI), GM2, GS (Roland) and XG (Yamaha) are supported.

If you have MIDI files with the extension .kar, you can use the PC (Windows) program "PSRUTI" to convert them into the correct format for use with Yamaha keyboards: load the file in question into PSRUTI, click the "Optimize XG" button and save the file to create a .mid file.

Are the files in question played in a MIDI player on the computer, e.g. in the "vanBasco Player" on Windows?

Please first check (on the computer) the file size of the non-functioning files. MIDI files are usually no larger than 100 - 150 KB (kilobytes). If the files are significantly larger (a few MB), they could be MP3 files with the wrong file extension (.mid instead of .mp3). If the files are relatively large, rename them (on the computer) to .mp3 and test whether they can then be played in an audio/MP3 player program on the computer. You should then be able to play them with the SX700's AUDIO player.

If the problem persists, it would be good if you post one of the "corrupt" MIDI files here so we can examine it. To do this, upload the file to a cloud storage service such as box.com, dropbox.com or Google Drive and post the link to the file here.

Thank you for taking the time to answer me so quickly. I really appreciate your answer.
These files are midi files with .mid extensions, in fact, they are around 30-40 kilobytes. They are not .kar files and they can be  reproduced with Windows media or similar. I´ve just tested if it runs with "vanbasco" and they work properly on it.
So, my only doubt is about the formats you mention. Probably (almost sure) that is the origin of my problem...
I wonder if is there a way to know the format type of my "failed" midis (?)

It's possible it they might be MIDI Format 2 files (although these are quite rare), in which case they need converting to Format 1 or 2.

You could try a simple MIDI format converter to do this, such as gnmidifmt2 (from https://www.gnmidi.com/ - demo is free), or the very simple and free MIDI File Converter (from http://midi.teragonaudio.com/progs/software.htm).

Thank you for that valuable info but I won´t need it in this occasion because my problem is now solved. It was very simple: the files were not well transferred to my usb unit.
