Hi Guys

I've now played all the files from the  'Lights Camera Action' Midi file collection, recently purchased from the US Yamaha website and have come across a problem, in which I need as bit help to solve.

How can I identify which instruments are used for the melody line, in a particular song?
Currently my CVP805 plays the default instrument, or whatever instrument that I manually select, however I would like to play along with the song, using the same voice as the midi file

Taking the 'Top Gun' theme as an example, yes the melody line is a guitar, but I have no way of knowing which guitar, out of the dozens that I have available.
Is there any software available which can identify the particular instrument being used, or perhaps I'm missing something?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

You should be able to open up the mixer while you play the original midi on your keyboard. Look across all the channels (1 -9 and 9- 16 need to be selected separately)  to identify the lead channels. The lights illuminating while listening to the notes should allow you identify the lead channels. Then touch the little instrument icon at the top and it will automatically take you to the actual instrument playing. Then you can select that instrument for your own playing.

Hi Mike

Many thanks for your help.
Turns out it's on Channel 4.  in Presets - Legacy/E.Guitar/Distortion Guitar.

I must confess that most of my playing in conjunction with Styles, whether the on-board Styles, or one the hundreds downloaded from this forum, so I'm a bit rusty when it comes to directly selecting a particular voice.

Best regards - Ken.
