New musical instrument development suggestions forum.
I just found it.

https://yamahapk.ideascale.com/c/

Lee Batchelor

Thanks for this. Why hasn't anyone found this in the past? Is it new?

It has only been going for a couple of months.

Thanks, Eileen. Do you think it's worthwhile? Will Yamaha actually listen? They have an excellent product but there are some very valid ideas here.

Lee,

They have been know to listen to comments made in here, so i would imagine they are monitoring ideascale.

Is this site run by Yamaha or just an independent group or individual. My Yamaha passwords are not recognised.

If it is simply an independent, surely it won't be any different form this site in making dreams.

This is a site that you are invited to join and put forward  helpful ideas and if you think the present keyboards can be improved also.

If this is not an official Yamaha site - and it doesn't look that way to me - I don't why they would give it any weight at all. Seems a waste of time.

The contact's email address is linked to a Yamaha domain. I doubt a Yamaha employee would use this mail if the site is not official by Yamaha.

This is NOT Yamaha, but they appear to be Yamaha.  On their website I don't see Yamaha as one of their customers either. And I'm not sure why Yamaha would hire them for new ideas for electronic keyboards.  Yamaha has a history of innovation.  Maybe they hope to get enough feedback to impress Yamaha to hire them(?)

Thank you, Casper!

Ben Israel (whose email is given there as contact address) is apparently "Planning & Development Manager" at Yamaha USA (Yamaha Corporation of America):
>>> https://www.google.com/search?q=ben.israel+yamaha

Apparently Ben Israel also uses the idea portal https://ideascale.com/ (which I had never heard of before) to collect ideas for the further development of Yamaha SYNTHs. Information about this can be found, for example, at www.yamahasynth.com

So the portal https://ideascale.com is definitely not operated by Yamaha, but the site https://yamahapk.ideascale.com appears to have been initiated by Yamaha employee Ben Isrsel (see above).

Since I didn't have any detailed information about the exact purpose of the site, I was very cautious about registering. And my advice above still applies: Please do not use the login data of existing Yamaha accounts to register there.

>>> Have any of you seen references to the site https://yamahapk.ideascale.com on an official yamaha.com website (not yamahasynth.com) yet?

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Joe and Chris

Your arguments may make sense, but there is no doubt that this is the official Yamaha domain.

I repeat, I suspect the employee did so without the consent of superiors.
All in all, I like this concept of proposing ideas and I don't see anything wrong with this page.

Hi Chris!
Why not registering an account there? Who say that you must insert your Yamaha credentials in this site?
You can register with an e-mail and a password. The email can be your Yamaha's email, but use another password and that's it! It's that simple!
And more than that, if this is a site made by an employee, what's wrong with that? We will not know if there are some improvements in our keyboard made after we post there, we don't know if Ben is active there, but we hope that for next features, we can share our ideas! Maybe somehow we will get heard of our needs :)

Regards,
Vali

In the past 1 or 2 Yamaha employees have enrolled to this forum with the idea of helping with problem solving etc. Presumably was officially "recognised" and tended to raise excitement at the time, so is this latest group much different from what happened before except that it's outside PSRtut?

Has anyone thought of contacting Yamaha directly to see if they are okay with this new site? I'm in Canada and would be glad to do it but Canada barely exists in Yamaha's eyes compared to the U.S. and Eastern markets. You folks have clout, we don't.

... but Canada barely exists in Yamaha's eyes compared to ... Eastern markets. ...
I definitely tell you that Yamaha does not know what Eastern Europe need!!! Our folk music is at the base like Middle Asia music (Legato, Styles with different time signature, and more and more)... We need that Time Signature for at least 10 -15 years ago, from Tyros 2,3 series.. We tell this for a long time, but nobody listen to us...
You cannot say that Easter Europe is listen more than Canada! I have email from Yamaha Europe (which is Germany) which tells me that they don't have any feedback from Yamaha Japan with anything from users demands! If a directly representative of Yamaha, like Yamaha Europe GmbH does not have any feedback, why do you think that anyone else like a some home user will have a feedback from Yamaha Japan?!
I don't think Yamaha engineers listen to somebody from low-end users... They listen only a couple of users, probably some users who paid a lot of money to do something for Yamaha keyboards, like that polish guy from Camaro.pl which have that software for making styles from Yamaha. Why he can have it and other users can not? Why this constraints?! I really don't understand Yamaha's !!!

He never said Eastern Europe, he said Eastern markets. To people in North America, Eastern means places like Japan, China, other Asia Pacific countries, not Eastern European countries.
Like any other successful corporation, Yamaha are going to put most weight on development which drives the most return ie their biggest market potential.

Good points, Valimaties.

By "ignoring Canada" I wasn't referring to the type of music we can do with our Genos. I meant that Canada is on the low priority list for anything new coming from Yamaha.

When Genos was first released, I was ready to trade my Tyros 5 right away. I was told by my music store that the Genos wasn't available yet in Canada and that the waiting period was about 3 months! Meanwhile, the U.S. and Eastern areas were receiving vast quantities. I live 40 kms from the U.S. border. Many Canadian cities are within a similar short distance from the U.S. border and yet we couldn't get a few Genos keyboards???

I put a call through to the Canadian sales rep for Yamaha Canada - I was very surprised I was even able to get through to her. She told me the same story how Yamaha favors the Eastern and U.S. markets for new products and that we just have to wait. Meanwhile, she bragged about how much she liked her new Genos, which she had in her procession for about a month or so. Really??!! She gets a free Genos right away and those who have been loyal Yamaha customers for 30 years and who have spent thousands of dollars must wait? I offered to buy her Genos. She proudly said, "It doesn't work that way." In fact, her entire tone during the conversation was one of smugness.

And that's what I mean by Yamaha ignoring Canada.

@all
for sure a "think tank" for yamaha is good.

Yamaha travelled around started with PSR-8000 to listen to customers on events/locations and also shops.

The designer of the Genos was als in our shop in Pforzheim before... BUT not every function and wishes where "heard" ... or built in...

Ideascal is company built the portal.

Yamaha took this function one of the "Chiefs" in the  https://yamahapk.ideascale.com/c/
is Simon Inkley from yamaha global ,( together with Martin Harris, the mastermind of content for our keyboards from the beginning of tyros 1!!!)

The other moderator is Ben Israel ( https://yamahasynth.com/learn/behind-the-synth/behind-the-synth-ben-israel-synthchat  )
planning&developing manager yamaha ...

I mailed to Rellingen and Hamamatsu optimizing and function ideas year for year, but NOW it is possible for active users to make own function and feature discussions.

So take a chance to optimize "our" keyboards.

Hi Frank,

I just signed up at yamahapk.ideascale.com (after hesitating at first because I didn't have any more detailed information about this site).

My first impression (after a few minutes) is that the whole thing is a bit "chaotic" ... ;)

P.S.
Has the Japanese Genos development team actually been to Germany again since those meetings (in 2014)?

Best regards,
Chris

There must be some young people a Yamaha who have not learned good promotional skills.  I was told personally by Yamaha that tech support regularly monitors this forum.  Why didn't they let us know about hiring a think tank company by posting a link on this forum?  And as I stated above, I didn't see Yamaha listed as a customer on their website.  I think this development by Yamaha  is as sloppy as the introduction of Genos was. (which was pretty bad IMHO)

Welcome to the "new generation" of thinking, Joe. I think a lot of companies are demonstrating a general lack of concern about anything except their profit margins. The baby boomers who used to run things and actually cared about quality, have all retired. As proof, I refer you to the types of music that's being produced today by the younger generation - mostly garbage.

But I digress...;D

Hi Casper I agree with you. I see this site very useful in my opinion. like i said in the topic too I submitted my Huge Keyboard Idea. so Yamaha can see it. 8) 8)

Mike2

Yes, Lee I agree, the baby boomers are retired, and the music produced today, is a two chorded song with heavy bass.  What happened?  I thought music was supposed to be poetic. I guess in today's world as long as it rhymes it is considered music. Glen Campbell is one of my favorites. One of these musicians mentioned once, that his problem with Campbell's music, is that his songs contain 28 to 30 chords.  Thats music.  But today in a world of political creativeness, subjective music does not come close to objective music, not because it's the best, but because it's the truth....So keep rapping...you don't need a Genos for that!!!

Lee Batchelor

Good one, Mike ;D!

I recently read a statistic that indicates the older music is drastically outselling the newer garbage. Gee, I wonder why? Any moron can produce today's junk. It takes real musicians to produce the stuff we grew up with. I think you said that :o.
"Learn" your music correctly, then "practice" it. Don't practice mistakes because you'll learn them.

mikf

There has always been a lot of junk produced, and some of it was financially successful  - remember "How much is that doggie in the window." or  "Chirpy Chirpy Tweet Tweet" . It's just that it gets forgotten quickly. The good stuff gets remembered, that is the real test.
There is still some good stuff being produced, but there certainly is a lot higher percentage of the forgettable stuff. And it's not an accident.  My grandson makes EDM and readily admits that it is all designed to a formula, to seem almost instantly recognizable, and not expected to last.
A recent study of music has shown that much of the music is now much less varied than in the past because record producers want it produced to tight constraints they know will sit well, seem like something familiar, and be blasted into consciousness by endless repetition. All to reduce financial  risk.  Then it gets discarded for the next "thing".

Idea scale ... named what it is!

So in this thread i read a lot of things .. but not a lot resonance on helping collect ideas and also vote for them.

It is easy for us to criticize but better for us to help to improve.

For sure some "crazy" ideas that only will be used by the "inventor" and never will built in ...

BUT ... when I take a look around WHAT is DONE with a Genos Keyboard around the world ....

:
-some use it in a CHURCH
-some use it in a studio arranging
          - movietracks
          - EDM
          - classical songs
          - 3 chord songs earning millions
          ...
-some use it live on JAZZ
-some use it live for entertainer music
-some use it live in pop&rock
-some use it out of the box , registering live (no SAVE Button, not additional styles ..)
-some registering years (and play minutes)
-some searching styles for 20 years instead of playing (I startet with selling keyboards with NO and 8 styles...)
-some never use the white and black keys and play midi files and sing along with the vh
-some make it a "organ" like the British trx and use "midi file" to set sounds
-some only play (when I ask them if they update they say: "it plays fantastic, why had I to change anything..")

... and maybe 20 more usage scenarios ..

So not every usage was "defined" from the Genos production team ... but people use it anyway.

e.g. fixed screen: the Japanese couldn't believe people playing a Genos in the field in the sun ...
THEY thought more "studios" in dark rooms will use it *gg*
I wrote letters and letters of optimizing the screen out (missing selectable score e.g. resolution, no black stripes by upscaling., using external touch to use like built in a montage version (same linux).)

BUT if only some have ideas and no one else "vote" or support a single idea (good or bad) the argument for optimizing for a company is gone...

greetings from germany
frank
