Is it possible to synchronise a multipad to start on the first beat of a bar of a style that is already playing?

Alan

You can SyncStart it. Then it will start of the first chord played.

Thank you Fred. However, if a style is already playing a chord, a multipad set to SynStart still needs the chord to be physically played. The synchronicity of the style and the multipad then depends upon the accuracy of the player in timing the two events.

Or am I missing something?

You're not missing anything.

An option you could look at is to have the pad start when the style does. Just add blank bars until you need it to sound.

Fred. That's OK for a one-off event. I've created a one-bar, non-repeating multipad that I want to activate at different points in the song.

Hi Alan,

you're right, it's hard to guess the right time to press Multipad in the middle of playing. But there is a simple trick that can be used to synchronize Multipad to start exactly to the first beat. While playing Tyros 4, I used this method. If the original Multipad is deleted and your own is recorded in its place, that multipad will be synchronized with Style. Watch the video.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand. "If the original Multipad is deleted and your own is recorded in its place, that multipad will be synchronized with Style."

1. Select Factory MultiPad Bank
2. Open Multipad Creator
3. Select Multipad 1 and press REC
4. Record the desired phrase
5. Store Multipad Bank

Multipad 1 will be synchronized with Style.

I've created a one-bar Multi Pad using the Multi Pad Editor and step recording via MIDI. It does exactly what I want, but I have to trigger it by hand.

It's not a serious application. I've just set it as an objective to enable me to learn a little bit more about Multi Pad creation, editing and use.

I have a CVP which does not have mulipads, so cannot check this, but I believe on Genos you should be able to assign multipad start/stop to a pedal which might be easier for you.

With the Genos, the MIDI MultiPad is always synchronized and starts from the first measure. I remember that was not the case with the Tyros 4, and it is probably the case with the PSR S970.

Alan, I posted a video which may help you ...  see here .. https://www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php/topic,61056.0.html

Any questions on how I did anything, check the downloads or ask away and I'll try to go into more depth :)

Thank you for directing me to that link of your using multipads in such an ingenious way. When I get time, I'll look at the downloads and try and understand how you did it. It did look as if you were triggering the multipads by playing the chord with your left hand - which is the usual action when I cause a multipad to do its bit.

I live in Sutton Coldfield. We could probably continue this conversation by going to our respective front doors and shouting!

Hahaha, I forgot how local you are to me  8)

Yes, I trigger them with chords (regs changed with pedals), but, for example, in each verse, they're timed to play when required throughout the verse so that it's a natural chord operation at the start of the verse whiich triggers the sequence. The three enhancement events are all in one pad ;)
