Hello Everyone,

As a child I only had a small accordion, with which I managed to play some tunes totally by ear. That was all the music I did until a few months ago, when my daughter showed the slightest interest in keyboard playing.
With a mad grin on my face, I went ahead and got a Casio CTX-3000, with which we're having a great time both of us.
But... I've arrived at a stage where I'd like custom rhythms for my playing, which I've come to realise are totally lacking or very hard to find for my Casio.
I'm in the process of learning how to make them, but it's a realy tedious job with the limited interface on the keyboard...
So here's my genius idea: get an Yamaha :D This website only has like gazillions of rhythms for Yamaha. And I'm pretty sure I can find PC editors for them too.

And that's why I registered on this friendly forum, to ask the following question:

The brand new Casio was around 250E (cheap if you ask me), and as much as I'd like a new PSR-S, it just doesn't justify the price for me.

Which one would you buy ?

I've come across PSR-E463 at around 200E used or 300E new.
OR
I could get a used older PSR-3000 for ~400E, maybe less if I look hard enough.
I really dig the "workstation" part of a keyboard, so the more buttons, the better for me. But is this model still worth buying ?

I'm really looking forward to your input on this, as I've never touched any of them in real life. And although Google is usually a good friend, searching "PSR-3000 vs PSR-E463" goes nowhere. I guess I'm the first one to ponder this :)

Thanks

Toril S

I would try to find a PSR-s 970 or 770 instead of the PSR 3000, because the 3000 can only use SFF1 styles. And it is very old! It was released in 2004! But any PSR is better than the E-series, because you have more features and a much more convenient user interface.

Hi Marius.  Welcome to the forum.  As to your choice of a kb obviously the more you spend the more you get BUT as an owner of a psr3000 and an even older psr740
I would say that you would be very happy with the 3000 if you can find one.  There is a reeaon they are so hard to find.  No one want to sell theirs.  When you're ready to move up you will have trouble selling it.

Hi Marius
Welcome to the Forum.
Consider purchasing a psr 740.
This is an instrument from the year 2000 (Millennium Series).
The styles are in SFF 1 format and the instrument has a floppy disk drive.
The current price is 350-400 Euro.
Twenty years ago it was the best keyboard in the world (next to the Yamaha 8000).
There is also a psr 670 for 550 Euro (used).
However, I would choose a new instrument, under warranty. Necessarily with styles in SFF2 format and with a USB port.
It is better to spend more in the beginning to enjoy the possibilities of the instrument longer.
Greetings.
Richard/Erbis
PS As always, the choice is yours.
A day without making music is a lost day :)

I was kind of expecting the answers I got so far. So the PSR-E is out of the question. That is already one of the advices I had to hear. And at a 300-500E price range I might as welll save the money for a 1000E keyboard, that's what you guys are saying, right ?
The thing is a PSR-SX is closer to the 2000E mark. I can't do that unless I divorce first :)
