Have been waiting for a long time for Bose to update their line.
Finally :)
Got 2 L1 Pro 16 to replace my 2 Bose compacts.
I am happy as can be.  ;D ;D ;D
Power, size, weight, and especially the clarity and definition of all the keyboard instruments and my voice ...

What about the L1 compacts? Have they ever been updated?

Gary, you wouldn't buy these.  They are 55 pounds each and $1800 each!  Overkill for what you and most of us do.  Maybe the smaller 8s would fit better.
There was another thread where the subject of making money playing arrangers was killed and blocked.  These speakers wouldn't be appropriate for many home users.
In my opinion, and I have had most all previous models, the L.D. Systems Maui line beats similar Bose units model for model, in features, sounds and price.
I have four Maui 5's (comparable to Bose Compact) although I only use two at a time.  They have deeper bass, more controls, including bluetooth, e.q. controls, multi inputs, etc., that the Bose Compact lacks.
I had the Mauis side by side with the Bose and liked the Mauis much better. Sold the two Compacts and bought the four Mauis with very little money to make up.  I used the Bose Compacts for several years, as they were the only small line array system available. I've now used the Maui 5s for several years, and still have a big smile on my face.
Thanks to Bose for pioneering this technology, but now there are lots of less expensive options.

I totally agree with DonM.
I compared Bose and Maui, several different models but which have similar characteristics. The conclusion has always been that with MAUI you get a better sound for twice as little money. I currently have 2x Maui 28 G2, but I use it for live gigs.

Not updated but replaced by the L1 pro8
They have now 8 instead of 6 drivers.
The compact does not really have a sub. The frequency goes down to 60Hz.
The L1pro8 has a real sub. Much bigger than the compact. It goes down to 45 Hz.
Compact 106 dB cont.
L1pro8 112 dB cont. They are much louder and fuller sounding.
The main thing for me though is the clarity and detail I can hear now. Wow.
Everything is so crystal clear and defined.
Huge difference for me.
Bose did an amazing job.

... are they much bigger?

Hi Toril,

the dimensions of the Bose L1 Pro8 and L1 Compact are almost the same, but the Pro8 weighs 4 kg more. I got these values from the relevant technical data:

L1 Pro8:
(H x W x D) 2005 mm x 318 mm x 440 mm
17.3 kg

L1 Compact:
(H × W × D) 1995 mm x 339 mm x 426 mm
13.3 kg

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris! Then I think I will stick to my Compact.

Eric, are they much bigger?

Yes, the base is almost twice as big, but the footprint is the same.  It is higher.
The Column is about the same.

According to the dimensions specified in the technical data (I already mentioned above), the L1 Pro8 is only 10 mm higher than the L1 Compact. 😉

Thank you,
But I was referring to the base where the sub is. Not the whole unit ;)
