Hallo,

I have a question about finding style duplicates.
I have the tool "PSR Style Database" and "Styles Duplicates Manager" .
With which tool is it easier to find duplicates ?

Thanks a lot

I use Double Killer. It finds duplicates in any folder. and you can delete or transfer them if you wish.

I also have Double Killer, it's very good and it's free.

Hi Hamby,

to use "Styles Duplicates Manager" (by Jørgen Sørensen) you have to create a Data file using the PSR Style Database application (by Peter Wierzba) first. To be honest, I don't quite understand the point behind this method (the "Styles Duplicate Manager" program).

Just use "PSR Style Database" (new version 4.8 from 2020-12-22!) directly to find duplicates:
>>> http://www.wierzba.homepage.t-online.de/psd/psddown.htm

Select the desired drive or folder and tick the checkbox "incl. Subfolders" ("inkl. Unterordner"), if needed. If there are a lot of Styles in the drive/folders/subfolders, the first time it takes a relatively long time for the Styles to be read, so be patient. However, this happens very quickly later.

When the Styles are displayed you can sort them by clicking on a certain column header (like in Excel). To display/group the duplicate Styles just click on the column header "Duplicates" ("Duplikate"). See also the attached picture!

You cannot delete files directly in the program, but you can define a certain folder as "Trash" folder in the settings. Then use the function "File > Move selected files to Trash" ("Datei > Verschiebe ausgewählte Dateien in den Abfall-Ordner").

P.S.

Hope this helps!

Thanks in advance for the info and help,

yes, I don't understand the "Style Duplicates Manager" AND "PSR Style Database" either.
I will try it with "PSR Style Database".
In my short test the result was the same as with "Double Killer" .

Have a nice Sunday

Hi bolepa,

I strongly recommend that you use the PSR Style Database mentioned above. "Normal" programs for finding and deleting file duplicates may consider different versions of a certain Style to be 1:1 duplicates (and therefore in some cases delete Styles that are still needed).

In the PSR Style Database, all Styles available in the relevant folder (or on an entire drive) will be displayed within seconds. You will not only see the file names here, but ALL important internal details of the Styles. You can sort and / or filter the entire list displayed according to many criteria. And also when searching for duplicates you have several options, e.g. "ALL Duplicates" or "NOTE Duplicates".

For more details please read my post above again and follow the link there under "P.S.".

Best regards,
Chris

Chris,

I am unable to install PSR Style Database. My PC is Windows 10 64bit 12 gigs of RAM, 250 gigs of available space.

I unzipped the file to my desktop and clicked setup.exe, and a message popped up that I don't have permission to run this program. I then tried to run it as an administrator, and a  message popped up saying this program cannot be installed on this computer. Then I went to Peter's site and downloaded it again and got the same result.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rick D.

No problems here, Rick.

I had installed V4.7 of the PSR Style/Midi Database over years on Windows 10 64bit and updated to V4.8 these days. After double-clicking the setup.exe you have to click Yes in the appearing UAC dialog (User Account Control) of course.

If you log on to Windows with an intentionally restricted user account by default (for example for more security when you are only surfing the Internet), log off and then log on with the original standard account (which was created when you set up the PC).

However, if you can install other programs normally with your usual user account, it is probably not because of that. Your anti-virus program may be blocking the proper installation of the PSR Style Database. In this case, temporarily deactivate the real-time scanning function of the antivirus program.

I hope your problem can be solved soon!

Chris,

Other programs have been installing fine. I am the only user on this computer. I do have Norton Antivirus, but that usually warns me if the program is questionable, not prevent me from installing it.

Tomorrow I will turn Norton off and see if that works.
I will keep you posted.

Thanks,

Chris,

I turned off Norton Antivirus and I got the message attached.

I went back to the original Zip file and extracted it again and had success.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your feedback, Rick!

Maybe there was an error on unzipping. I recommend using "7-zip":
>>> https://www.7-zip.org/

I used V20.00 alpha for a long time with no problems, and today I changed to the new V21.00 alpha of 7-zip (64bit). :)
