My dad has the Genos and I have the T5. We've downloaded some expansion packs from Yamaha's shop - https://shop.usa.yamaha.com/en/downloadables/sound-expansion-library/voice-style-expansion-packs.html - and are trying to install them. Everything's fine up to creating the install file in YEM but then what? I seem to recall reading somewhere that installing other packs will overwrite what's there. Is that right? Is there any way to add expansion stuff instead of replacing it? Is it possible to back-up what's already installed in case mistakes are made?

Thanks.

Hi Carl,

it is NOT possible to save the installed Expansion content from the keyboard back to the Computer or to an USB stick.

When you install Packs, you first import the Packs into the Yamaha Expansion Manager (YEM) on the Computer. THIS is your "backup" of the installed Packs. In addition, you have the original Pack files (.ppf/.cpf) on your computer.

You can use the wireless Pack Installation method (available for Genos, and also for Tyros5 when using the USB WiFi stick "UD-WL01"). In this case, you can install some Packs in the first session, and you can ADD other Packs to the keyboard in future sessions. Important is that you always select ALL the Packs you want to have on the keyboard in the YEM.

If you use the "USB stick Installation" method, on GENOS you can use the "Quick Pack Installation" method: In the first session, you make a ".cpi" file (Standard Pack Installation file) on the USB stick. In future sessions make sure to use the file type ".cqi" (Quick Pack Installation file). Here too you have to select ALL the Packs you want to have on the keyboard (also the Packs that are already installed on the keyboard).

Note: The "Quick Pack Installation" method (via USB stick) is NOT available für Tyros5!

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

That's right, Chris. The pack that is installed in the keyboard is deleted if we type a new one. It can't be taken out and if we don't have its ppf / cpf, we will lose it.

Quick installation is just an upgrade and I would not recommend it to beginners. It is always safer to create an Installation file from scratch.

A very comprehensive answer. Thank you. (Plus it is actually as I suspected about having to add the existing ones back in at the same time as adding any others!)
