Hi.When recording a Midi File I often use the transpose button to change key. When you save the file (song) and play it back it doesn't recognise the transpose through the song .Is there a way of saving it or locking it as you play or is this just not possible & you have to manually transpose every time you play it? I realise it is saved if you convert to an audio file.

Hi Larry,

which keyboard model do you have?

I have Tyros 5.Is this the same scenario as the Genos video posted?

ckobu

Tyros5 has the same division of transposition, master, keyboard, song. Given the continuity of Yamaha's instruments, I think the principle is the same. You will have to try.

I have just tried a midi file that I recently recorded which I transposed halfway through.I have now changed the setting to Keyboard, played it through & nothing happens just stays in the same key!!

The Transpose Keyboard should be used during recording. Only then does it react independently during playback. Try recording a short test song again.

I have just given that a go & yes you are indeed correct & thank you so much, that will be so useful & save time for me in the future.Stay safe & well my friend.

Hi Larry,

the basic point is, you should have transposed (only) the KEYBOARD while recording. The played (transposed) notes are recorded to the MIDI file.

The transpose values for "SONG" and "MASTER" must be set to zero (0).

I recommed to do the following:

1. Press [Direct Access] button and then [Transpose - (minus)] button. This calls up the "Transpose Assignment" display.

2. Set the assignment to "KEYBOARD" here. Press [Exit] button to close this display and to automatically save this setting in the System Setup.
Now you can use the [Transpose +/-] buttons on the panel to transpose (only) the keyboard. (To set transposition to zero (0), press both Transpose buttons simultaneously.)

3. Press [Direct Access] button and then [Transpose + (plus)] button. This calls up the "Tune" tab of the Mixing Console.

4. Make sure that the transpose values for "SONG" and "MASTER" are set to zero (0). Press [Exit] to close Mixing Console.

5. If needed, you can transpose (only) the keyboard now using the [Transpose +/-] buttons.

6. Please note that the current Transpose values of "KEYBOARD", "SONG" and "MASTER" are memorized in Registrations (!)

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Excactly. That video was too complicated. It is as simple as Chris says :)

@Toril S - It is important that we have helped @ larrygreen1 and that this rule can be applied to all Tyros models.
Let him choose whether it is easier for him to watch the video and read the captions or just read the description on the forum.
