What all can I do with Genos Wlan and a WINDOWS 10 computer? Specific to windows only please.

I use it primary with Musicsoft Downloader for transferring files between Genos and my computer https://europe.yamaha.com/en/support/updates/msd_win_kbd.html

You can also use it with the chord tracker software that lets you analyze audio songs stored on your android or IOS device
and then send the detected chord data to Genos. Chord tracker also suggest a style that will fit your song. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.yamaha.emi.chordtracker&hl=sv

Hi Floodie,

you can also use the Genos WLAN (WiFi) to install Expansion Packs from the YEM on the Genos (instead of installing via USB stick):

Connect the Genos via WiFi to your local network (using the "Infrastructure Mode"). If on your WiFi Router the "DHCP Server" is activated (which is the default), the Genos is automatically assigned a suitable IP address. You only have to select "your" local network in the Genos Wi-Fi settings and to type in your WPA (security) key.

By the way: The Yamaha MusicSoft Downloader uses the "MIDI-over-WiFi" (wireless MIDI) connection for File transfer.

By using an additional "Network MIDI Driver", you could also transmit "normal" MIDI data via WiFi (instead of the usual USB-MIDI cable connection).

Important: This wireless MIDI connection can only be used with the MIDI Port 1 (both Transmit and Receive).

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

How do you configure Musicsoft Downloader to work with the WLAN?
Genos, ProTools, Cubase AI10, Win10,  BIAB-2022, Sibelius Ultimate, MixMaster, PRSUTI, StyleMagic, StyleWorks, and Baldwin SF-10 acoustic piano.

When Genos is connected to the wireless network, there is no configuration needed for the Musicsoft Downloader to work and you will be able to transfeer files between Genos and the computer. the same way as a normal file browser.

You can check this article out on how you set up Genos to act as an accesspoint and you can connect to it as you would do to your normal wireless network.   https://hub.yamaha.com/genos-power-playing-wireless-lan-and-chord-tracker/

I have the Genos showing up in my router's "connected" list, but Musicsoft Downloader on WINDOWS 10 only attempts to use a USB connection.

I am pretty sure that the WLAN on the Genos is working, because I downloaded the Android Chord Tracker and when I connect the Android phone to the Genos and play a song on the phone, it actually SOUNDS on the Genos.

But the Musicsoft Downloader does NOT seem to have any way to connect to the Genos except via USB.

Hi Dave,

You're right. I checked again and it's seams that the Musicsoft downloader only uses the USB connection. There is another application - Musicsoft Manager - that use wireless, but I think this is only for IOS.

It's a bit strange that Yamaha haven't included this option for the PC application, but hopefully it will hapen in a futire update.

Thanks for confirming the sad news.   I've never understood why Apple seems to be the first choice for making music.  Avid is another company that used to be primarily focused on Apple but that's really "off topic" so I'll stop the rant right here!

I'm OK with the USB connection except that Musicsoft Downloader can't off-load a WAV file but at least with the Genos you can "mount" the USER area via USB and copy/move/manage from Windows which is a great step forward in my experience having come from the PSR-S910 and thumb-drives being the only way to copy/move WAV files.

Thanks again.

Genos!

It's too bad that the Genos can't connect to NAS directly via wifi. It sure would be a game-changer.

Even with the FA-08, though you can push a few buttons and it will output wave files for each of the assigned tracks, one wave file per track... you still have to do wave transfers by swapping media.

I do think that the Genos having its own built in router is a step in the right direction, but it falls short in not having balanced outputs, and no digital audio over usb.

The Genos, however, is the most realistic sounding keyboard on the market for sax, clarinet, trumpet, to name a few. I still don't think the SA is there yet, but they are trying.

You would've thought that by now swapping media is a thing of the past.
