Can't see the MIDI files on Tyros 5

This is a weird one. I have a large number of MIDI files stored on the hard disk of my Tyros 5. Most times, when I try to access them I can't see them. I can see the folders they are in but when I access any folder it appears blank.

Just to complicate things, on rare occasions I can see them!

This must be a very basic question but does anyone have any idea what causes this?

For reference I get to the required section by pressing button D and then using the cursor to get to the hard drive.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Whino,

You have to make sure you are in the right section when accessing your midi files. If you are in Style or Registrations section and open the your midi folder it will be empty as there are no styles and registrations in there. Make sure you are in the Songs section,  and open your folder with the midis. You should  be able to see them there.

Hope this helps.

They're there, Whino. You just have to tell the keyboard you're looking for midi files. You do this by starting with the Song (A) button.

If it don't work

The OS of Yamaha keyboards has a file masking system. That means that the files can be seen only in the right location for that file, a style file can only be seen when you are in style selection mode, MiDIS only in midi song moda and so on. The folders can be seen in all modes, but if you open a style folder in the song display, the folder will appear to be empty. Actually, this file masking is handy, it helps us to remember to open files in the right mode :)
