Well I finally have my keyboard talking back and forth with Sonar and am having no issues except one.
If I play my midi file in Sonar it plays back perfectly thru my SX900. But when I'm done with Sonar the keyboard itself doesn't play any sounds until I turn it off and back on again.
Am I missing a setting somewhere or is this just the nature of the beast?

Did you end on the right way
Try to close sonar on the right way
Look in the menu to close decent
I have te Tyros  5 and as sequencer xgworks
I have sometimes the same fault
Maybe it is the usb midi driver
try to update with the last version of the driver

Not a problem with your the settings, it's simply a bug with Sonar. You don't have to turn off the keyboard, just call the new MIDI setup like in the video.

Thanks so much for your reply. Tried it and all working. I have the latest Sonar installed you would think they would have that bug fixed by now.....lol

Thanks again,
Much appreciated

I have all versions of cakewalk from Pro Audio 9 to BandLab.
I did not have this problem while using Tyros4.

When Sonar starts up, it sends a Midi Local Control=Off command to the  SX900 to prevent the device from generating sounds from the keyboard. Only Midi commands then sent by Sonar to the device will generate sounds.

By default, Sonar does NOT send the reverse command to re-enable the device sounds when the program exits.

This may explain the situation you are experiencing.

Sonar has an option to change this default behaviour, i.e., re-enable the sound generating capabilities of the device. This option sends a Midi Local Control=On command to the device when Sonar exits.

The option is in the TTSSEQ.ini file and is called "sendLocalOn"

See this documentation link ... https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=INI_Files.5.html

Hopefully, this option will work for your situation without having to physically change the Local Control parameters on the keyboard itself.

Is not actually a bug from Sonar X1.
As daleSP explains, you can change this in INI file TTSSEQ.INI

Search the Sonar TTSSEQ.INI file on your PC :
Open this file with notepad (Attention the file must be saved as ASCII code without formatting)

In my version of Sonar X1 the file looked like this :

[Options]
PumpDataMsec = 250
[MIDI Input Devices]
0 = Digital Keyboard-1
MaxInPort = 0
[MIDI Output Devices]
0 = Digital Workstation-1
MaxOutPort = 0
[MIDI Echo Devices]
MaxEchoPort = -1

Add the following commands under the [options] link (be sure to enter everything correctly - case sensitive and no spaces):

SendLocalOn = 1
SendLocalOff = 0

After changes it should look like this :

[Options]
PumpDataMsec = 250
SendLocalOn = 1
SendLocalOff = 0
[MIDI Input Devices]
0 = Digital Keyboard-1
MaxInPort = 0
[MIDI Output Devices]
0 = Digital Workstation-1
MaxOutPort = 0
[MIDI Echo Devices]
MaxEchoPort = -1

With SendLocalOn = 1 -> you determine that Sonar X1 will put your keyboard back as 'Local On' when it is closed
and with SendLocalOff = 0 you say that Sonar X1 does NOT put your keyboard ias'local Off' at startup.

Etienne

I found a list of midi controler data in pdf format
I make a little midi file just one measure with the controller i need
such as a reset or local off or on and place it on my desktop
When i need it i play the little midi file
