I was checking the CASM Section of a Style ( Moonlight 6/8)
The Piano section         "USING MIX MASTER"
Has two parts
Channel 4 and 13.
How it possible to create such a style
As Channel 4 contains Bass parts

if we try to create a Style using the Keyboard Style Creator.
It ends up making 1 channel.
I do understand CASM is hard to understand.
I'm giving it my best shot to learn.
I'm also having trouble learning how to use System Exclusive Messages. Which I'll create another post. As it will contain related problems.

As I understand from what I've been told (I think by Joe H?)-- and my understanding might be wrong-- the second channel is for the minor key version. I think each style part can have a major key version and a minor key version, and accordingly there can be two different "source" channels for each style part-- although they will be played back only one at a time as needed according to whichever type of chord you're using. But as I said, my understanding might be wrong. :)

The understanding I got today from the CASM Section
1 Channel was being used for Bass the other for both Major and Minor.
I'll have to attach the file here and Screenshots.

You can have one source channel that's used for both major and minor keys, if there is no difference between those versions of a style part. But my understanding is that when a given style part has two source channels, one is for the major version and the other is for the minor version. I'm not sure how the keyboard would know whether to use one source channel or the other source channel unless it's based on something like the major or minor version?

EDIT -- Actually, now that I think about it more, I guess it's controlled by the source/destination settings in the CASM section. So I guess in theory you could perhaps have more than two source channels for a given style part, with each source channel set up to use a particular voice, such as if you wanted "Main A" to use a specific Bass voice but you wanted "Main B" to use a different Bass voice, or something like that?

It's quite hard to explain without a screenshot
I'll add it ASAP

I was amending my last response while you replied, so be sure to read my additional comment. :)

EDIT -- As I said before, my understanding might be wrong! To be frank, I haven't quite wrapped my brain around the whole major/minor variations in style files, mainly because I haven't been motivated to look into it yet. In the styles where I've noticed multiple source channels being used for a given style part, the different source channels appeared to be using the same voice and settings as each other. But I don't see any reason why they should be required to do so.

No worries mate.
Your experience is quite valuable.
Specially with MIDI
Thanks for the update :)
I'll add my problem regarding System Exclusive Messages asap

I'm planning to post something about Sy*** messages. As you can imagine, it's quite a complex topic, since Sy*** messages can be used for many different purposes-- and each company can make their own Sy*** messages-- so I won't attempt to cover it in any great depth. The main thing is to understand the basic format of any Sy*** message, as well as how to take the information that's listed in separate tables and put it into a Sy*** message.

Hi Norman --

CASM has many capabilities which are not exposed in Style Creator. The ability to use channels 1 to 8 is not supported, for example. There are also options to support Mega Voice programming. Full blown CASM can select a channel based on the assigned chord types. The assignment is not limited to just major vs. minor.

Style Creator needs a major update in this regard.

Hope this helps -- pj

If you need an example of the major/minor chord phenomenon to study, look at INTRO 3 of the "Ibiza 2004" style that debuted on the PSR-3000.  When you play this Intro with a major chord, you get an entirely different melodic passage than if you play it with a minor chord.  It is the best example of this that I have seen, because it is such a pronounced difference - nothing subtle about it.

Here's a link to the StyleMagic documents.  StyleMagic displays all 16 channels. The documentation explains how the CASM is assigned to a channel and how the style Part is set and what type of chords it will respond to.

The Melody change is totally different.
Wow!

Does stylemagic allow us to create such Styles?
