Trying to back up my flash drive but none of my pc's will colonizer it when I insert it into the pc from the 3000.  Any ideas?

Hi,

I believe that the 3000 formats the card as FAT32 which should be readable in the PC but it may depend on which make of flash drive you are using.

Have a check on google for others having similar problems as there are quite a few questions regarding this issue.

Good to know! I have had no problems with win 10 and USB sticks yet.

Interesting! I have one Win 7 and one Win 10 PC. No problem with USB sticks. I use Kingston and SanDisk.

The big mistake made by users, one that often destroys their flash drives, is to remove the drive while the keyboard is still turned on.

Always be sure to turn off the keyboard and wait about 10 seconds before removing the flash drive. This also includes flash media cards. There is no program in your keyboard for removing the USB flash drive safely as there is in your PC.

Well Gary, I may have damaged the flash drive.  Everything is working but I wanted to back it up.  Problem is pc doesn't see it.  Not a biggie.  I think I can build up a new drive from what I have.  BTW, although I still look at newer models, I am still  TOTALLY happy and satisfied with the 3000.

The PSR-3000 did not use FAT-32 formatting until the last two iterations of the firmware [1.7 and 1.8].  Prior to that, it used FAT.  So what format a particular PSR-3000 is using depends upon what version of firmware it is running, but that should not really make a difference.  Any computer from Windows 95 to Windows 10 should be able to recognize either FAT or FAT-32, but as Martin indicated, a Google or Bing search on "FAT-32 USB drive not recognized by Windows 10" seems to indicate an inordinate amount of problems with this, so it is not unreasonable to assume that Windows 10 would have problems with FAT, as well.

A word of caution to Windows-10 users:  Windows 10 no longer formats at FAT or FAT-32.  It only formats at exFAT or NTFS - neither of which is compatible with most personal MP-3 players, automotive MP-3 players, keyboards, cameras, tablets, and many other USB/SD-Card devices currently in use.  Of course, you can usually format the storage media in the device, itself, but the above searches indicate that Windows 10 "should", but may not, recognize that format.  In addition to this, just about every Windows 10 update seems to generate an epidemic of USB-2.0 connectivity problems until the affected users re-install all of their USB-2.0 drivers.  We, in the music business, probably see more of these complaints, due to the increase in keyboard USB-2.0 connectivity as 5-pin-DIN MIDI connectivity wanes, especially on the lower priced entry level models, whose owners typically lack the experience for dealing with complex Windows connectivity issues, so they end up blaming the keyboard and its manufacturer..

Tried both a USB stick and an SD card in my Win10 laptop....
the SD card had options for NTFS, FAT, FAT32, and exFAT
the USB stick (Sandisk) had options for NTFS, FAT32, and exFAT

I could believe Win10 might not format a hard drive with FAT or FAT32

ekurburski,

Regarding what Roy_T said about firmware versions of the PSR3000 and storing to a USB stick, a bit more in the link below. If you find your 3000 is an older version you might be able to upgrade your keyboard if the newer versions of firmware (if available) and have it be able to store data on a USB stick that is readable on a PC. I'm thinking your stick may be OK and it could be used to restore the settings on your 3000. It's just not readable by a PC. Plug it back in the 3000 and see if it reads it.

How to check your firmware version.......

The PSR3000 is native Fat16, unless you performed the OS upgrade to Fat32 (which requires a Smart Media card). So... if you're trying to get a fat32 to read on the PSR3000, unless you performed the OS update, it won't. You *can* always downgrade your USB stick to Fat16 (which maxes out at 2GB, I believe)

Hi
If you want to recover files from a external flash drive with errors
Get DISK DRILL free . just google and you will find .
It worked a treat for me.
If you have a flash drive over 100gig Eject them first by going to the upward arrow near the time display
Right click drive and it will eject and disappear . You can then pull the drive out without harming anything.
I say recover your files and get a better flash drive.
or re-form the original

All the Best
John :)
