Is it possible to somehow to increase the internal memory.
Maybe get the pen drive to act as a internal storage.

It depends what you are trying to store. Registrations, midi files, styles etc. can all go on a USB stick.

But expansion wave data can only go into the internal expansion memory.

PSR-S have inbuilt expansion memory that cannot be changed. Tyros has an optional expansion board which comes in different sizes (512MB, 1024MB, and event 2048MB from a 3rd party)

The PSR S770 has only 150 MB
Which isn't enough for me.

Is it possible to play a voice pack from the pen drive rather than installing it on the keyboard.

No All expansion packs need the flash memory fitted to use these voices.

No, it is not.

Expansion wave data can *only* be read from the expansion wave memory that's installed. On the PRS-S series it's limited to what was pre-installed, and cannot be changed.

I agree that 150MB is a bit mean though. It's one of those 'features'  that the further up the line you go, the more flash memory you get.

Norman,

I'm afraid you will have to upgrade to a PSR S975.  It will give you plenty of memory.  If you can wait for the next PSR, I suspect it will have 1GB of internal memory.

1GB of memory is still not enough for me.
I have about 1.18 GB of expansion voices.

A question: Can .vce voices files be stored in the thumbdrive?

WolfBack

You can save all the .vce voices on your USB drive.
But the .vce is not a voice but some modified data for the voice that you have already loaded on your keyboard (on main memory or expansion memory).  :(

Then, what file format is a voice?

Then, what file format is a voice?

The actual Voice file format is a Yamaha secret.  The user .vce file is a Standard MIDI File (SMF).

When we select a right hand Voice the keyboard loads the Voice first then loads the .vce file to set the octave range, DPS effect Type, the Reverb and Chorus Depth, and many other settings.

But we can tweak a Preset Voice by selecting R1 or R2 then select the Voice Set option at the bottom of the screen.  Voice Set is actually a simple sequencer that allows us to adjust many MIDI "channel messages" such as Attack, Release, Vibrato, Brightness, Reverb, etc, that will alter the sound.

When we save a User Voice, we are saving the Voice Set file.  Even if we give it a new name, what will happen when we select the user Voice is the Preset Voice will load and then our modified Voice Set file will load with the altered parameters to give us the custom Voice we want.

An example would be we wish to modify the Flamenco Guitar and we save it as a User Voice and name it Spanish Guitar... when we select the User - Spanish Guitar the keyboard will load the Preset Flamenco Guitar and then load our modified Voice Set file to make it sound like the Spanish Guitar sound we saved as the User Voice.

I hope this explanation will give you a better understand how the mid-level and top of the line arrangers operate.
