Hi Everyone,

As part of repaying all the great input from the nice community here, I will share my recent headphones purchase for use with my S970. My AKG K 240s arrived a few months ago and I am pleased with them. They are very clear and neutral. They are comfortable and include the plug adapter for 1/4" stereo so can be used in virtually any situation. I can recommend these without reservation, but everyone hears differently. I would love to hear from others about their headphones...

I use a Behringer HPX 2000. Simple and inexpensive but it does the job.

I asked this question some time back what headphones to buy, I ended up buying Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm on a recomendation of one of the members here and I am extremely pleased with them, I can wear them for hours with glasses at the same time and they are really comfortable, my wife loves them because she can't hear me practicing lol I got them for around £120.

I find myself a little torn between:

  • Celebrating the great privilege of having excellent headphones to listen to music and practice without having to have a separate room, or
  • Mourning the fact that many people bury themselves in these noise-canceling sonic wonders, becoming completely oblivious to, and failing to interact with, the world and people around them
Hopefully for us musicians, we enjoy them and then put them away so that we can play for our families, friends and audiences.

I use AKG K 271 mkII Studio Monitors.  They sound great.  $125 to $150 USD depending on where you buy them.

Hello to all,

I am looking for an inexpensive pair of headphones (if possible costing around 50 € or USD +/- 20) to practice both on my PSR E433 and DGX650.

Main purchase criteria : they have to be really light and comfortable because I will wear them for a couple of hours at once, and the chord must be at least 1m long because on the E433, the headphones socket is on the rear of the keyboard.  :o

I thought of buying possibly a pair of cheap Yamaha headphones like these:

https://www.thomann.de/gb/yamaha_hph_100b.htm?ref=intl&shp=eyJjb3VudHJ5IjoiZ2IiLCJjdXJyZW5jeSI6IjIiLCJsYW5ndWFnZSI6ImVuIn0%3D&glp=1

Has anybody tried this model or any other model?

Thanks for helping,

Regards,

Vinciane

Past keyboards: PSR E313, PSR E413, PSR E433, PSR S550, DGX 640, upright piano.
Now: DGX 650, Casio CT-X800.

You won't get a good one for that price,
You would get a decent one under 30 USD

Hope you get a sale price offer.

I am sorry, I didn't express myself correctly.

I mean I am looking for a pair of headphones for an average price of 50 € or 50 $, plus or minus 20 € / 20 $, so for a price comprised between 30 €/$ and 70 €/$.

Vinciane.

Under the heading "Headphone Terminology", read about "Closed-back vs. Open-back" headphones in the link below...
https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/headphones-buying-guide/

Open back may be preferred for just casual listening while playing, but if you intend to do any vocal recording while listening to the music with headphones, then closed back would be the better choice. Closed back would lessen the likelihood of sound 'leakage' back the microphone.

Hi Mark and thanks for your input.

I will not use vocals for the time being so open-back will be fine. My main concern actually is to find headphones which I can wear for several hours without feeling strain on the head. So if you have any idea about that it will be very welcome.

What I would suggest is if at all possible, is to go to a music store that has some headphones you can try both for a comfortable fit, but as well how they sound.

I do have a pair of these which are semi-open and they are comfortable for me for extended periods of time and sound good. Reading the reviews will give an idea of other peoples thoughts.

Good day ;D

My proposal is for Sennheiser HD 598 headphones.

It is a great choice for people looking for comfortable headphones, who can make an event out of any music or soundtrack. The HD 598 is not as puristic or audiophile as the HD 600, but thanks to its powerful bass, its sound is somehow more spectacular. The price difference between the two models cannot be ignored either, and HD 598 is definitely the winner in this competition. That's why they deserved my recommendation. Sennheiser's designers have gone beyond their previous technological limits to present a fully mature product in terms of sound reproduction. In my opinion, the HD598 is a very successful model in every respect - including aesthetics. The sound of the headphones is clear, multidimensional and incredibly musical - inducing to listen for many hours.
Sound quality
The marking of this model suggests that we are a hairstyle away from the already cult HD 600 model, and I think that the same treatment was applied to the 589 model, which is clearly cheaper than the "six hundred" model, in some respects similar to it, but it also has its own character, which is manifested mainly in bass bass. Personally, I don't like bass, but I think anyone who had the 598 on their head would agree that instead of bass they sometimes offered bass that would fill every possible gap in the ear canals. HD 600 were and still are much less "modern" in this respect, that is simply more linear (which doesn't mean perfect), which of course doesn't have to be liked by everyone. And how does the bass "interpret" HD 598's?
In this respect, it is an average between the two extremes, the so-called golden mean. Bass neither "collapses" nor tends to ascetism; there is exactly as much of it as it should be. Even listening to albums on which the bass is not bathed (Paul Simon "Stranger To Stranger", Radiohead "A Moon Shaped Pool"), you don't feel exaggerated. But that's not all - good control of this range is complemented by clear, clear and saturated colours. When needed, low-component components can surprise with real momentum and freedom, but even then each impact seems to be precisely programmed. The specific "storm strike" known from the HD 598 therefore gave way to "the accuracy of a mathematical machine's operation", which was definitely good for the whole presentation.
The terms creamy and velvety match the diameter. There is a slight warming up in the message all the time, just to make sure that the colour saturation does not seem excessive. Thanks to this, we are not in danger of hardness or dryness, derivatives of extreme transparency, which usually torture ears like sermons given by parents. The high tones pretend to be high-end - they are clean, open and light, and the amount of plankton, the smallest detail the 598s are able to capture from the recordings, makes an incredible impression. Both the title recording from Paul Simon's above-mentioned album and another, equally beautiful track, "Proof of Love" even shone with the glow of percussion instruments complementing the melodies. To this must be added the clarity of stereophony, which easily locates and separates single apparent sources, and a lot of freedom and space - no doubt, the presentation of the recording acoustics is a strength of this model.
I've been using these headphones with Tyros 4 for several years now and am very happy with them.

Hi --

I'm using Roland RH-A7 open-back headphones. Very lightweight and not super expensive. On-line prices cover a wide range, so it's a good idea to shop around. $90 USD-ish.
