Hi,

after trying some other speakers, including the Yamaha HS5, I found that the JBL LSR 305 are the best speakers around, and they cost only 119€/piece. An additional subwoofer is possible, but not needed. See attached the nice setup. :)

Nice and really good value!   How do you find the low frequency response?  I'm using the Yamaha HS7 as I prefer not to use a sub.

Hi Simon,

I find the low frequency response very good. I think as good as on the HS7 (which I could compare one to one at the Thomann audio studio). So the sub is not needed.

I'm sure that the JBL LSR305 speakers are very good for the price (105€ at Thomann - black version).

However, I decided to challenge a bit the claim that they are "the best" (Please don't take this too seriously  ;D). See for instance the following review:

https://www.gearslutz.com/board/reviews/1065232-yamaha-msp5-studio.html

This is what was said there:
"If you are looking to upgrade from entry-level monitors like the JBL LSR305, Yamaha HS5, PreSonus Eris 5 or KRK Rokit 5s, I advise you to take a hard look at the Yamaha MSP5s. These are a step up to true pro-quality studio monitors at an affordable [299€ at Thomann] price."

Placing the JBL LSR305s against the wall in a recess will boost the bass frequencies considerably: I suspect that some EQ would improve the sound, see the other post I wrote

I use Bi-amplified (with slope adjustments) Genelec 8020C's on K&M stands with the Isopods.
Unbelievable power and clarity. Solid metal cabs: Trust me, no sub needed.
I might change to 8030's in a while.
Neg points: Expensive.

* Now upgraded to Genelec 8030C's * Absolutely awesome. Power and clarity.
😊  I started out with nothing .. and I've got most of it left!  😊

In order to prepare for the Genos, I bought a pair of Genelec M040s for my home studio.
I listened in the shop to this song.... and that's all i needed to hear.

When I got home I listened to it again.....  Closed my eyes and i thought I was in the room at the Mandalay Bay
where it was performed....  and when I got to 04:36 in the song... I cried.....

These two tear my guts out. Andrea often does all by himself.

These two versions aren't too shabby, even though neither one is quite up to Katherine and Andrea (IMHO)
