Extremely disappointed with styles purchased from Yamaha - RESOLVED

Purchased eleven styles from Yamaha and downloaded the demos as well.

Well, I * * * HAVE * * * to complain about the following:

1. The site is extremely slow - I keep on getting server errors.
2. The transaction completed before I could download the 11th style - I paid for eleven, but have only 10.
3. The styles sounded * * * NOTHING!!! * * * like the demos on my S770. I spent a whole evening tweaking only two so far to sound at least close. I had to re-voice some parts, change drums & volumes for various style sections etc.

Only one style was exclusively for the Genos - I expected the need to tweak that one. As for the rest, they were ordered for the PSR series and were supposed to sound like the demos.

My experience was not a good one and I doubt that I'll ever purchase more styles from them. I'll not recommend this to anyone unless you have a Genos - maybe only for that it will sound like the original.

I'll gladly supply proof of the above to anyone interested. I can record the styles as found and post those along with the Yamaha demos over here for all to compare, but it will only bring shame to Yamaha. I can also supply the modified styles to Yamaha for a comparison to see how much extra work I had to invest in these.

The fact that I COULD get these to sound like the domos, is proof that they sell inferior styles by creating false expectations. I listened to those demos over and over at work and could not wait to get home to actually play them. What a ant climax - they sounded worse than some of the worst styles I have for my S770. They should clearly state that the quality of the demos is for the Genos only as these styles have only been optimized for that range!

Yamaha, you have access to all your products. Please go listen to the styles as per the attached list on a PSR S770 and compare to the demos that you've presented for these styles. Then tell me whether my complaint is justified or not.

Very unfortunate, Henni.

I've always been happy with styles I purchased from Yamaha.

Are you sure this was an official site you were at, or were you spoofed?

I just saw now there was yet another place where I should have selected my instrument. When I now selected S770, some of the styles in that list are no longer available to me.

It might be that I downloaded styles for the wrong model (Most prob the Genos). I can however not tell as I cannot compare the different styles - I only have the wrong versions. If the styles are different for the different models, then that might be my problem

Fact is, they still owe me one style that I've paid for.

When I browse for styles at Yamaha MusicSoft, they usually list five different versions:

- XT5
- XT4
- XT3
- XT
- XA

Although there's no explanation of what these mean, I assume that "X" is for "XG-compatible" and the rest of it indicates a particular model or product line-- "T5" for "Tyros5," "T4" for "Tyros4," etc., and "A" for "Arranger." Presumably the version you choose will determine which voices are used by the style parts, and possibly even other things like effects types, so people don't purchase a style that's incompatible with their particular keyboard model. When I choose one of the PSR-E models as my instrument, the site always selects the "XA" version, so that must be the version with the "lowest common denominator" XG voices, as opposed to versions with a lot of Mega Voices and so forth.

EDIT: Okay, now I just feel stupid. ;) Apparently all I had to do was click on "Help me choose" and it would pop up a window explaining what the versions mean!

When you enter at yamahamusicsoft better select your instrument first and then search for styles, midis or expansion packs to purchase.
This way you cannot buy something that is not appropriate for your model.

The site indeed is always slow for some reason.

Henni you can e-mail them to send you via e-mail the style that you could n't download.
I don't know if they can send you the appropriate styles also but you could ask them.

Henni

I have emailed them twice already - no response received to date.

Yep, I agree. I hadn't searched for styles in quite some time until yesterday. There seem to be some changes for search filtering by compatibility. It seems like a user must actively choose the instrument and check the "compatibility" box when searching.

This definitely affected the results when searching for Genos styles/packs. The first time through, without the compatibility box enabled, the site displayed a number of T5 styles/packs, When checked, the search results were narrowed.

Yep, there are times when the site is running slow. Perhaps a lot of people trying to take advantage of the sale before it ends?

All the best -- pj

Maybe their Intel processors are melting down. Should've gone with AMD :)

Yamaha came back to me. All is sorted and I am SUPER happy. FANTASTIC styles indeed!!!

SeaGtGruff

I'm glad you got it sorted out satisfactorily. Yamaha really does know how to create the best styles for their keyboards, since they know the ins and outs of what each particular model is capable of. :)

Before they changed the Musicsoft website I had bookmarked the page for the S970.  Whenever I used the bookmark it would reliably take me to that page.  The new site requires we select our keyboard every time. That's a bit inconvenient.

Hi,

Did not think it was possible. Done!

An alternative might have been to leave the title as "Extremely disappointed" to reflect the original reason for the thread, but add something like "(Resolved)" at the end of the title to indicate that the issue was dealt with to your satisfaction.

Roger Brenizer

I agree, Michael.  If everyone will notice, as you read down through the comments, the topic title of each comment still reads "Extremely disappointed", with the exception of the comments following Henni's edit, which reads "Extremely happy" beginning with Reply #13.

I guess the only way to change the titles on the earlier replies would be for each person to modify their own replies and change the title-- as I've just done as a test on one of my replies.

That's correct, Michael.  The other alternative would be for a moderator to modify all the titles, but I chose not to do this, when making my comment, because some of the comments would not make any sense.

Your solution to add (Resolved) in the topic title is by far the best solution.  :)
