I purchased EPIC Strings 2 from Soundworks, as recommended by Leigh.

I followed the steps using Expansion Manager. Saved file as .ppi

When I attempt to load it onto my Genos 2 I get message Unsupported file type.

I contacted Yamaha Support. They agree, and saw screen shots that I followed proper steps.
Still getting the same error message.

Does anyone have advice?

Thanks.

Hi @Tommarr,

You may not have created the .ppi file for Genos2, but for another Install Target that is present in your Expansion Manager (YEM). (See below.)

It is also important that you use the current YEM version (V2.11.0) and ideally also have the current firmware installed on the Genos2 (V1.10).

Do you have several packs in the Expansion Manager (YEM) that you want to install together on the Genos2? Or is "Epic Strings 2" the only pack?

The file type .ppi (= unencrypted Pack Install file) that you mentioned is used when only unencrypted packs (.ppf) are involved, i.e. no encrypted (.cpf) packs.

Please note that Pack Install files (both unencrypted .ppi files and encrypted .cpi files) are model-specific. You must therefore have a Genos2 Install Target in the YEM and also have selected it. It would not work with a different Install Target (e.g. Genos(1), PSR-SX900, etc.) because the .ppi/.cpi file created with it would not be compatible with Genos2.

Then make sure that all packs you want on the Genos are selected now (light green check mark) and click on the "Save as Pack Install File" button. Then, if available, select the file type "Pack Installation File (*.ppi), otherwise "Pack Installation File (*.cpi)".

Please make sure that you do not accidentally use the file types "Pack Quick Installation File (*.pqi") or (*.cqi). (Pack Quick Installation files allow you to add Expansion content as fast as possible. Before using *.pqi or *.cqi, you need to save/install a *.ppi or *.cpi to the instrument.

If the error "Unsupported File" still occurs when installing on the Genos2 (under "Menu > Expansion"), I recommend exporting the Genos2 Instrument Info file (.n27) to a USB stick again and importing it into the YEM again. (Delete the old Genos2 Install Target in the YEM beforehand.) Then save the .ppi/.cpi file again to the USB stick as mentioned before and try Pack Installation on Genos2 again.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

My understanding is the epic strings are a cpi file and when you bought it you would of had to give your n27.
so if you have changed keyboard from G1 to G2 it wont load.
I would contact your supplier if thats the case

I have successfully installed the Epic Strings 2 expansion on my G2 using YEM using the following steps.

1. Format a USB stick from G2
2. Export the G2 definition (n.27) to the stick from your G2
3. Add the definition file to YRM on your PC
4. Import ALL the expansions you want to load onto your G2 (for the ES2 this will be the .ppf file supplied when purchased)
5. From YRM select ALL the expansions you want to include in your installation file (.cpi)
6. Create the installation pack (.cpi) - I prefer to create this to a drive on my PC as a backup and then copy it to the root of the USB stick
7. Insert the stick into your G2
8. From the G2 menu select 'Expansion' followed by 'Pack Installation'
9. Install expansions.

Caution!! - Please note that the installation pack you have created will format the drive in the G2 during installation and will remove ALL existing expansions in your G2. This is why you need to make sure you have all the original expansions that were loaded on the G2 when purchased as a backup.

Let me know if this works for you
