Creating a new registration bank after I had filled all 8 of my registrations up

I searched for this topic with  no success.  Probably from my lack of experience here on the forum.  Pardon me if that is the case please.  I created 8 memories in the registration part of the SX720 and saved them to a bank.  Now when I turn on the keyboard those 8 show up as blue light on the registration area of course.  Now, I need to create a NEW empty bank so that I can enter 8 new registrations onto this new bank. BUT, I am not sure how to do that, and I certainly do not want to overwrite or delete the 1st bank of 8 that I created.  Please advise if you know how to direct me on this matter.  I will much appreciate.  The research that I have done via Yamaha and this forum have not been adequate for me.  Again, probably from my lack of experience.  Thank you in advance.

Pick,

See page 88 of the operators guide for full instruction on how to do this.
If you don't have a manual you can download it free here from Yamaha.

This will explain how to save your current registration to the USER section and create a new Registration Bank without losing the original one. I like to make a Registration Bank for each song and name it the name of the song, some like to have several songs on one Bank, it is all your choice.

If you still have problems ask again.

You don't *have* to empty out the buttons. I never bother. I just memorize a new registration, and it replaces the existing one.

If you really want to empty a button, just watch my video on how to save your first registration. The last half shows how to clear a registration button.

Save your current reg bank under new name, something like a "NEW empty bank".
On the regist bank display touch "menu", then "regist bank edit"
Delete unwanted regs
Save reg bank

I think the thing to grasp is that saving the bank you have up with a new name doesn't eliminate the original. I always had trouble with that as well since it didn't seem logical. I think we all trip up on that and even after all these years, if I don't do it for a while, I have trouble with that. I don't know why they didn't provide a simple 'new bank'  step. It would be more intuitive  - but they didn't!
So you just go thru the steps of saving the bank and giving a new name and you now have a new bank as well as the original one - provided of course that you have saved the original under a name in the first place.
And yes, the original registrations will still exist in the new bank, and you could then delete them. But you don't have to. You can just save new ones in each button and they overwrite.

I am usualy clearing unused registers because I want to know which ones are already occupied in the bank (blue). And especially when they are named.

Good morning.

In my PSR I created a full empty registration bank (editing an existing one) and renamed it "empty" and saved it in my user area.

Every time I need to create a new bank, I use this "empty" registration as a base.

For me, this approach have been working fine.

Hope it help.

Hello,

Yes Mike, it's not logical, when you think of Windows but here we're on specific devices and it's good that they don't react like a computer.

I always bounce on an already named Registry Bank because I give it the title of the song and I always choose it with as many similar settings as possible: Splits, Assignables, pedals etc ... for the new title in order to save time on settings.
I assign it the new Style to work on and immediately save it with its new song title so all I have to do is finish the desired programming and save it safely in its already named slot!

I don't need to start on a blank registration (because i've been doing this for so long... i've been using registrations since first introduced in 1983 on Electone), but for people just starting making registration files, that is absolutely how I instruct them to do it; Yes either have a blank file that you always save as the new filename you're about to create, or just load one with 1 registration (I also tell customers to create a single default registration how they want to start up their instrument every time, so that the splits, scale tuning, etc are all to their taste)

Exactly what I do.
I even created empty files named : NO_MIDI, NO_PAD, NO_STYLE and NO_AUDIO
My starting Registration has all these files in it and R1, R2, R3 and Left voice are the first piano in the piano list.
This works great for me.
