Hi to all members. I bought New Yamaha SX720 Keyboard and after only 10 days of use, keys started to get noisy, clicky, and wobble, especially black ones. I really loved the sound but I could not believ that Yamaha put the same keys again like on sx700/sx900 where a lot of people have problems with noise and wobble. My keys was awful after only 10 days, and I just can imagine how would they feel after 1 year of use. How was your experience with keys? I am asking because I read a few posts everywhere online that some people have problems like me and some do not have problems at all and their keys are perfect on sx720/920. I returned my keyboard and I got the money back. Maybe in future they will fix those keys problem and maybe I will consider buying it again but only if they fix that key problem. Maybe I got first series of SX720 keyboards which keys was really awful, in my case. I still have SX600 and I did not have any problems with keys, no noise, and no wobble at all. I would appreciate if other owners of new SX series share their experience. Thanks and best wishes to all of you.

From what we've been able to gather, it's kind of luck of the draw (it all depends how the key grease was distributed); so if you had a thinner layer in some spots, you'll get the clicking sooner). Supposedly, that will eventually happen (my PSRsx900/sx700 display models were great at first, but got noisier *so gradually* that I didn't notice -- until I unboxed the new sx920, and man, did that ever seem quiet by comparison.

Maybe that's what's happening ... some people are getting noisier and noisier keys so gradually, that they didn't notice.

At moderately loud volumes, it wouldn't bother me. But playing on headphones, when everyone else is only hearing key clicks...

That is really awful control quality for yamaha and these SX keyboards. I am thinking maybe to go back on Korg because of those keys, but I really do not like Korg sound at all, especially arranger part, yamaha is much better there, but they really should do something about that Fsb keybed. For sound SX720 is all that I need, but, I am in a fear to buy Yamaha again, because I need to be lucky to get a keyboard with no clicking and wobble of the keys.

If you want to avoid the clacking from sx series, I'd suggest getting an older PSRs970/s975, or upgrading to a TOTLA like Genos, Tyros (We recently sold a used Tyros 2 and used Tyros 3, and both still had perfect keys after all these years; Genos 1&2, Korg PA5x keys are whisper quiet... but the PA1000/700 keys feel exactly like PSRe series keys :p

Um, no, it's not quite what I meant by luck of the draw; the thing is eventually, the *sx* keys will *all* clack. It might take 2 weeks, 6 months or even 5 years, but once the grease gets moved around enough, it will clack. The solution is either to put the grease in yourself (it's a solid white grease, *not* wd40!), or go for a non sx keybed where that won't happen.

If you get another SX, and it's quiet at first, maybe it'll get noisier so gradually that you won't notice :p But this issue has been around since 2019 when they introduced the sx line.

My old SX900 was fine for a few months then the keys (especially the higher black keys) starting clacking so I quickly sold it and bought a possibility 12 year old Tyros 4 ..Still awesome and all the keys are still quiet.

I'm not sure if the new SX keyboards have a dust issue but my used T4 had a few keys that were faulty and I had to open it up and found a heap of dust under the bad keys ..that was a few years ago and since making a keyboard cover it's still perfect. It might have sat in a warehouse for months out of the box but now it's fine. I believe that the genos and Tyros keybeds were made in Japan and the newer keybeds were made in China so I would grease them up nicely and then always use a keyboard cover!!
Currently : Tyros 4 Keyboard    Previous Keyboards : SX900, S650, E-373 and S550

I was among the first here, who complained here about PSR-SX keybed (I've bough SX700 just after it came to market).
Yamaha is aware of keys rattling problem and has even released internal service bulletin somewhere in 2020. The solution for servicing staff in that bulletin was: apply fresh silicone grease.
I did that, however it only lasted few months till keys started rattling again -as it is to be expected.
Obviously it makes no sense to take keyboard apart every few months.. because after a while the whole keyboard might start rattling (all screws are screwed into plastic).

What I'm extremely disappointed about Yamaha is the fact, that despite being aware of the flaw, they decided to keep the same keybed and use it in successor (SX920/720).
Yeah, Yamaha cares about quality.

So keys will definitely start to get noisy and wobble in time. It is definitely  not a solution to open a keyboard every few months, that is really bad. They should definitely put another keybed in sx series, fsb is awful. I have a lot of Korg pa keyboards in the past, last one was pa900 and I have it for about 10 years and keys was good with no clicking sound and no wobble at all. I also have Yamahas psr1100, s900, s910 and Sx600 and I did not have any of these keys issue. With sx720 i was really terrified of keys and I could not believe. Fsb is like on a keyboard priced at about max 100 euros. If they care about quality they should find another solution, and not to push people to buy genos which is double the price of sx920. I was really dissapointed with the keys of my sx720 and that is the reason why i send it back and I got the money back.
