Dear all,
I'm not really familiar with the "song recording" environment of the yamaha arranger keyboards.
I'm finding some issues on the following two operations:

- I usually create the "skeleton" of the song playing one of the styles: what I notice is that the recorded data sounds horrible, primarily because the chords transitions of some tracks are kind of abrupt and not smooth as played with styles. I don't remember similar issues with the previous SX900 model.

- Is there a way to add only notes to an existing song track maintaining same voice, effect, etc setup already? What I see is that the voice settings are everytime imported from the active keyboard voice (e.g. R1) and not the ones used on the existing song channel.

Maybe there are more specific tutorials around.....

Thanks in advance

I'm afraid that I don't understand this part, because resulting (midi) song always sounds exactly the same as when played/recorded. Of course, that's only true if we listen to the song on keyboard.

Yes, that's what MIDI Multi Recording (MR) is meant for. But it's a bit complicated... A complete explanation is impossible here and so I will just guide you to the right direction for further experimenting.
About "always defaults to R1" thing:
When you're in MR and you tap the voice icon, you can select from which source you wish to record and as you say, it always (or usually) defaults to Right1, no matter what track you pick -that's because MR doesn't know yet what button (R1,R2,..) contains the voice that you wish to record.

If that bothers you, then you can simply tap on record button (big red dot on bottom left) and then tap the same button again (to turn recording off). Now each track will have the source assigned the way you probably expect.
But you know what? That doesn't really matter. Let me explain...
Now, if you tap on icon of 3rd track, you will get Right2 selected as voice source (before it was Right1). But the question is, which button (LEFT, RIGHT1, RIGHT2, RIGHT3) does actually contain the voice that you wish to record?
If you wish to keep "Right2" for 3rd track, then you need to assign desired voice to RIGHT2 button and activate it.
Recording into particular track is activated by taping on "Rec" of that track. That is, keyboard is waiting for you to start playing. If you wish to start recording after intro or whatever, then tap >/II button and midi will start playing and recording your playing.

In MR screen there's a setting:
Start Normal
Stop Replace All

-that's default setting which is usually ok in case you wish to record the whole melody.
However, if you have already recorded the beginning of melody and you wish to add/continue the next part, then you should change above settings to:
Start First Key On
Stop Punch Out

-that won't erase previously recorded content.

Back to voices.. How to find out what voice was used in particular track? You can't see that in MR. To find that out, exit MR and open Channel On/Off panel (Menu1) -here you can tap on voice icon of desired track and it will show you what voice that is.
The problem is, if the voice was customized (with Voice Edit) before it was used for recording. What will happen is, even the same voice is used, it will sound differently.
Because of that, you need to make sure that selected voice (i.e. in RIGHT1) is exactly the same as previously used on that track. For example, if the song was record by using particular style, then the correct voice is probably stored in OTS of that style.

Almost forgot.. if you only need to change few notes in the song, then you can use StepEdit in MR. After StepEdit window opens, select desired track (channel) on the top-left of the display.
If there's a lot needed to be changed, then some DAW on PC would be better for that job.

That's it... time to start experimenting  :)

Simone, all the things that you want to do are possible and routine - once you know how! Bogdan has given you good answers here, but there is a lot of trial and error involved in getting into the intricacies of the system. We all go thru this.
But this is exactly what the forum is good for ......try things, then post - as you have done -  as specifically as you can what doesn't seem to work, and someone will help - just as Bogdan has done. Then repeat the process until it becomes clear.
The thing you are finding with voice selection/R1, I stumbled around with myself in the early days, until the light bulb went off!
Sometimes it helps to go back and read the manual, in the light of comments like Bogdan's. The combination of explanations helps that light bulb go off.
And the next thing to experiment with in adding or correcting sections in a multi track recording is to try the drop in technique. I think it's much neater and easier than using step recording, especially if you lean towards playing real notes rather than data inputting!
Last thing, I agree with Bogdan that you shouldn't be hearing any issue with chord changes. I wonder if maybe your chord change timing is not as good as you think it is? Or if you don't get all the notes down together? It's something many find out when they listen to recordings of their playing. They hear things they didn't notice in real time playing. Other than that, I have no idea what you are hearing. As Bogdan says, the midi should be a perfect reproduction of what you play.

Thanks you all for the detailed information provided.
It Will take some time tò "digest" them, but i probably Need tò challenge myself on taking a deeper look tò manuals and trials.

Have a great day!!
