Genos 2 Assembly function issue

Hi all.

I want to share an issue I found in my new Genos 2, which BTW, I got it for three days (the sound is much better than G1 😁)

First of all, I had a style, made in 4/4. The Break is also made in 4/4, but I needed a longer Break, with an addition half measure, so, to be able to do that I set Ending 3 as 2/4 and pattern lenght to 2 measures (Ending 3 is empty). I copied the data using assembly function from Break to Ending 3, checked the copied data, played well, saved style, then I set the Break to 6/4 in Style Section Time Signature. All data from Break was deleted.

The initial Break was like this: two beats in measure having some guitar strokes, drums and bass, and the last two beats was only a kick and cymbal on 3rd beat, and a bass note on the same 3rd beat (something like a sound pause of two beats). Now, to insert the 1st and 2nd beat to the 3rd beat, and move the initial 3rd and 4th beats to the right, I extended the Ending to 3 measures of 2/4. In my math calculation, 3 measures of 2/4 equals 1 measure of 6/4 (in Break). After I extended the Ending, I copied the second measure to the third and then once again, the 1st measure to the second. Now I practically have my midi data correctly set for copy process of my extended Break (4/4 to 6/4).

The issue comes here. When I assembly the Break, using the data from Ending, the assembly function will NOT copy the data correctly, it insert some strange beats, because instead of having the Break's Kick and Cymbal on beat 5, it put them on the end of beat 6. So, it does not keeps the midi data structure from Ending.

What I've done to be able to bypass this issue:
I've opened the style in StyleMagicYA, and changed the marker for Ending to FillInBA and the old marker of FillInBA to ENDSEC, practically to remove the break (old one). In event edit I've changed the time signature for the new Break, from 2/4 in 6/4 .

Now everything is ok, BUT still is an issue with assembly function, using different type of measures, but practically the same number of beats.

Regards,
Vali

Good to know about the style assembly bug; incidentally G2 *can* now do 2 bar fills (sometimes). How? Set the time signature of the bar to 8/4, for example. But you can only individually assign the fill break timing; the A/B/C/D timing for the breaks is tied to each sections main var.

Oh wait, no I just updated to the latest OS update, and yeah, I can assign the fill time signatures seperately too.

So yeah, you don't need to copy and paste using assembly; you can make 2, or even 3 or 4 bar fills now. (numerator up to 127 beats, denominator from 2 to 16)

cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark.

As I know, the Section Time Signature, for each variation/fills/break/intro/ending was already in G2 till release, as this new feature was implemented in A5000 first time, for arabics styles, which definitelly need this.

My problem was not making a double 4/4 measure, but one and half measure, wich means 4/4 + 2/4 (so a 6/4 measure). That was the challenge, because starting from a 4/4 measure I need to convert it to 6/4, and insert first half of initial 4/4 in the middle of the 6/4. That's why I had to create that Ending on 2 measures of 2/4 and assembly the 4/4 break into Ending. In this way was very easy to add another 2/4 measure to Ending and then, also very easy to use Bar copy function to copy needed bars at their new position.  :)

Regards,
Vali

Yes, you're correct, since the A5000 (but definitely not the same operation system; the G2/sx920/sx720 have restored the ability to render midis from custom styles, the A5000 was tied to the G1/sx900/sx700 OS, none of which they ever restore that ability on.

Yes, 1.5 bars is a little trickier, you're right! I may need to bookmark your workaround, just in case
