Genos2 New Firmware Version 1.2

• Changed the behavior so that even if you turn off some of the Left Part and Right 1-3 Parts while Sustain is on, the notes that are already sounding on those Parts will be maintained until Sustain is released (turned off).
• Added a setting item "Slider Mode" (Catch/Jump) that allows you to change the response method of the LIVE CONTROL sliders, on the display called up via [MENU] -> [Live Control] -> [Menu].
• With this setting, you can now switch between the standard slider response of Genos2 (Catch) and a response where the value changes immediately when you move the sliders (Jump; the same as on Genos).
• Changed the behavior as to whetheror not pitch bend affects the Harmony (Vocoder) sound of Vocal Harmony so that it is the same as on Genos. Operating the pitch bend now affects the Vocoder sound.
• V1.04 to V1.10

I am disappointed that they still do not allow style dynamics control to be saved in a registration as one can do with other live controls.

I totally agree with the disappointment. I've mailed Yamaha one month after the Genos 2 release about the dynamics control problem, not saving it into the registration successfully. I even demonstrated it to Peter Baartmans and he also agreed that this is not correct and promised to communicate this with Yamaha.

I've given up and stopped concerning about this. Yamaha is not listening (and I don't believe it anymore they will do in the future). It also looks like they don't want to be innovative. My Genos 2 memory is full and I'm stuck on investing in new packs or voices. Normally I'm saying that I will certainly upgrade to any newer model when it will be released (from Tyros 3 to Genos 2). At this moment I doubt it very much.

So...this weekend I have planned to pick up and buy a new Ketron EVM module to expand my music equipment and to fulfill my need to discover new things and functions and enjoy the real audiostyles from the Ketron. And from what I've seen and read, Ketron is a lot further in using computer techniques and updating their OS software. Even read something about plans for AI chord progression. That's what I like to see and like to look out for more new functionality in the future.

PS: Really happy with the Slider Mode....it was really a pain in the *** for me, changing the sliders to the top before working. Took way too long to add this feature.

I also completely agree, especially in general and not Genos 2 specifically. It seems to be a trend within all brands that there are fewer and fewer updates. In addition, I have the feeling that each new generation of keyboards differs less and less from the previous one. Less and less innovation.

I hope that Yamaha (continues to) listen to the consumer. There is always enough to innovate. There are consumers who can buy a keyboard every year, but also those who can only do so once every ten years. How nice would it be if consumers were occasionally spoiled with an extension such as new styles and small improvements.

A small example. Korg Pa5X has been on the market for a few years now. Completely new operating system and therefore fewer features than its predecessor. Consumers complained bitterly and Korg did not seem to listen or respond. However, now they have woken up and update 1.4 will be released soon with huge improvements and new features. So it is possible. Ketron also proves that it is possible.

Yamaha keyboards are very nice devices but please why with so little storage in 2024/2025

Yamaha is a very big and heavy company. I'm sure they are working on a lot of AI subjects. They have clear product management with roadmaps and associated resources. The features for the next Genos are already defined. Arrangers should not be a critical target for their strategy. Nevertheless I'm quite sure every 4 years we will see  a new keyboard model that is a « not enough big » evolution of the previous one, that doesn't include the latest IT progress, but that a lot of people (relatively) will buy. Ketron is smaller a company, more dynamic but with less power. Cycles could be shorter for Ketron

How can i mailed to Yamaha?

I think that if you want more than what's currently offered by Yamaha, then it's sensible to buy something from another manufacturer in addition to the Yamaha. Then you get the best of all worlds.
